Beltangady, Oct 1: In an incident which happened at Puttila within the limits of Punjalkatte police station, a young man, who acted like having fallen in love with a minor girl, sexually exploited her by posing death threats. The accused has been identified as Nawaz from Bangerakatte in Machchina village in the taluk.

On the basis of a complaint made by the girl, a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered in Punjalkatte police station.

Nawaz had got acquainted with the girl. When there was none else in the house, he used to visit the house several times, and sexually harass the girl by posing death threats, the complainant stated. The girl, frustrated by the repeated acts of the accused, informed the family. The police arrested him and produced in the court.

The leaders of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and BJP have extended moral support to the girl. The police had kept the information about the case under wraps even after three days of the registration of the complaint. Now, the copy of the complaint made by the victim, photo of the accused and first information report of the police have been uploaded in the social websites and become viral. The police are being criticized for the secrecy they have been maintaining with regard to this case.
