Bengaluru, Oct 1: The universities in the state have postponed the commencement of first year degree course classes for the year 2021-22 which were to begin on October 1 under the new National Education Policy (NEP). The delay is on account of evaluation of answer sheets of degree examination that is in progress and other reasons.
Most of the universities plan to start the classes from October second or third week. The state government, which had earlier declared that new academic year degree classes would be commenced under the NEP from October 1 onward, had left the final decision to the discretion of the universities concerned.
Bangalore University is planning to start classes from October 18. Bengaluru City University and north universities plan to begin classes from October 21 while Nrupatunga University and Maharani Cluster University have decided to begin classes from October 7.
In some colleges, seats are still vacant in the first year degree classes. For the first time in the state, the Multidisciplinary Constituent College for Women under Bengaluru city university located at Malleshwaram has got not even 50 percent admissions. Therefore in such colleges the date of admission and college reopening day have been extended.
This year, the government is implementing NEP through degree classes and therefore, teaching has to be in conformity with the new syllabus. The government has adopted a report by experts in this connection and sent the framework of the new syllabus to all the universities. But the universities have so far not prescribed lessons under this syllabus so far. This is also one of the leading causes for the postponement of their classes, it is learnt.
