Udupi: Rs 15 lac ransom demanded for lorry driver abducted from Malpe

Udupi, Oct 4: A driver of a fishing lorry has been allegedly abducted over non-payment of Rs 15 lac related to fish business. The man abducted is identified as Sulaiman.

A resident of Koppa, Suleiman, was working as a fish lorry driver in Malpe. On September 30, he had been to Malpe for duty. On October 1, Sulaiman's family tried to contact him over phone, but he was unavailable.

Shamshuddin, younger brother of Sulaiman, received a phone call from Sulaiman's mobile phone number on October 2. The person on the call introduced himself as Sameer and said that he along with others had abducted Sulaiman from Malpe on October 1. The family members of Sulaiman enquired about Sulaiman in Malpe and found out that he was buying fish from Malpe and was selling it in Kerala.

Sameer also said that Hanas and brothers from Kerala have abducted Sulaiman. He further warned that if Rs 15 lac ransom was not paid, they will kill him and dump the body into the sea.

A case in this regard has been filed at Malpe police station by Sadiq, elder brother of Sulaiman.
