UAE: Mourning Periods Announced After Death of Sheikh Saqr


UAE, Oct 28: A week-long mourning period started yesterday throughout the country, with flags flying at half-staff on all federal buildings, ministries, government departments and institutions.

Ras al Khaimah

The mourning period will last for 40 days, during which time flags will fly at half-staff, with local government departments and institutes remaining closed for the first week.

Abu Dhabi & Dubai

The mourning period will last for seven days, but there will be no closure of any government departments.

Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah & Umm al Qaiwain

The mourning period is for one week. Government departments and institutions in these emirates will close for three days, starting today.

    Heart felt condolences to the Saqr Dynasty on the demise of Shaikh Saqr who was the oldest Ruler in the whole of the Middle east.I was there in the seventies & i worked under his son Shaikh Sultan who was the commander of defense forces in Ras-al khaimah.may his soul rest in peace is our prayer.One of my daughter was born in Saqr Hospital over there.Oswald
