Aerobridges Begin Operations on Trial Basis at Mangalore Airport

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (PS)

Mangalore, Nov 5: The much-awaited aerobridges at Mangalore Airport began their trial run here on Friday November 5, as per the orders of the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) issued to the airport authorities on Thursday November 4.

The new aerobridges made their inaugural when passengers aboard international flights from Dubai and Kuwait as well as the domestic flight from Mumbai landed at the airport and were ushered through them straight into the new terminal.

These aerobridges enable the passengers to directly walk into the arrival lounge of the airport from the aircraft as well as board it on departure.

The aerobridges have been acquired from Indonesia on a three-month trial basis. The aerobridges, costing Rs 2.6 crore, had been installed at the airport about eight months ago but were awaiting green signal from the DGCA to commence the trial run.

The aerobridges, however, are designed for use only with aircraft like Airbus 320, Airbus 321 or Boeing 737-800 which fly to major destinations, and not the ATR aircraft.

Rolphy Almeida, If the product is patented then you cannot copy or duplicate it and own credit. You need to obtain a license to reproduce or modify. Do you know the reason why the coca-cola goodwill value is so high because the coco-cola formula is kept secret. In some countries the movies or films are copied and reproduced, distributed without the consent of the owner or producer which is illegal and a violation of the copyright law. Only the distribution company who have license to do so are authorised to copy, distribute, sell, and publish for public viewing. If you watch Movies produced in united states, then on the screen the first scene you will notice is FBI warning punishable under the copyright law.

They use engines produced by the same companies.Same thing for the internal components (pumps, actuators, avionic boxes).Boeing was incorporated in Seattle, Washington by William E. Boeing, on July 15, 1916, as "Pacific Aero Products Co." Airbus Industrie was created on May 29, 1970, and was formed as a public interest group on December 18, 1970. The company was formed under French law, in the absence of a functional legal framework accepted throughout the European Union, then known as the European Economic Community.

Airbus company in Toulouse, France.Airbus began as a consortium of aerospace manufacturers. Consolidation of European defence and aerospace companies around the turn of the 21st century allowed the establishment of a simplified joint stock company in 2001, owned by EADS (80%) and BAE Systems (20%). After a protracted sales process BAE sold its shareholding to EADS on 13 October 2006.There is a list of aircraft manufacturers sorted alphabetically by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)/common name. It contains the ICAO/common name, manufacturers name(s), country and other data, with the known years of operation in parenthesis. In the European Union, aerospace companies such as EADS, BAE Systems, Thales, Dassault, Saab and Finmeccanica. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a specialized agency of the United Nations, was
created with the signing in Chicago, on 7 December 1944, of the Convention on International Civil Aviation. ICAO is the
permanent body charged with the administration of the principles laid out in the Convention.

Blaan Mendonca, in your first explanation you have stated, “India has to pay Airbus or Boeing to manufacture Aerobridge”. How you justify this as Boeing is American and Airbus is European company. According to you, are both original inventors? In that case, why India cannot design on its own? According to your theory all Japanese, Russian, European, American car manufacturers pay royalty to the original car inventor. Airbus, British Aerospace and several Russian manufacturers are paying royalty to the original aircraft inventor in USA? I appreciate your patience for answering all my questions, hope you will answer this one either.

Rolphy Almeida, Let me put to you in simple words that You cannot copy or produce someone else's Invention without the consent of the original inventor or the origin country. That is the reason you can see on every product there is a Patent Number and a copy right law. India has the capacity and Technology and also the cpability but not the technology to compete. Do you know there is a patent for Turmeric and Basmati Rice and that is owned by India. I will ask you a question, If you were an inventor and have produced something new into this world will you like somone to copy it, produce it and sell it in the market without paying you any royalty. Will that sound good to you. Surely no.

blaan mendonca, mangalore/usa, Thank you for your detailed technical explanation. I worked for an airport in the gulf for 25 years and, understand the technical and safety aspects. I still could not understand why some one has to pay royalty for an indigenous product. According to your President India is not emerging, it has emerged. I agree with him and want you to know that India has produced helicopters, aircraft (LCA), missiles and has done some work in space research. You may not believe but I am confident that this country is capable of anything. You must have left India long back and that could be the only reason, you have underestimated India.

Rolphy Almeida, You need to understand once again that the Aerobridge was first designed in united states in 1900 when Wilbur Wright built his first glider where he climbed into his seat in the glider. The main reason for introducing the aerobridge is mainly for passenger comfort. However, it was only possible with the advancement in technology in the 1970s where manufacturers were able to meet the mechanical requirements for the operation of the aerobridge. Also, the box girder bridge construction contributed to the development of the aerobridge as the aerobridge is of a box girder construction.

There was not much influence on the material side as aluminum and mild construction steel were available before the time aerobridge was introduced. the first bridge was Pedestal Bridge, Apron Dive Bridge, However, when a range of aircraft are to use the same gate, the Apron Drive Passenger Boarding Bridge (PBB) is more suitable as it may serve a large variety of aircraft since it is capable to move to a range of position. The improved type of aerobridge manufactured and used nowadays is made out of mild construction steel which is corrugated, Apron Dive Bridge. This provides extra strength and with its coating of fire resistant paint, it can withstand fire for up to 45 minutes which meets the fire safety standard NFPA-417what about tyres either, Dunlop, Michellin, Bridgestone collaboration.

Blaan mendonca, mangalore/usa, I don’t think you are right in this regard. Air bus, Boing, Tupolov, Antonov, Ilusion etc are aircraft manufacturing companies not Aerobridge manufacturers. Tata was, I repeat was in collaboration with Mercedes Benz, not any more. They have indigenously manufactured many passenger cars and various products so does Mahindras. Aerobridge is simple mechanical, motorised, hydraulic equipment just moves forward, back word up and dawn with limit switches. Any indigenously manufactured product may not have to pay royalty to anyone. Please don’t underestimate India being an Indian.

Rolphy Almeida, As Tata-mercedes Benz, Mahindra- Jeep are all collaboration companies. They buy technology and pay royalty for the patent. India has to pay Airbus or Boeing to manufacture Aerobridge. Again it is the question of patent, royalty and collaboration. India needs lot of money for research. India's Investment is mostly foreign investment of approximately 316 billion dollars which is a burden on all of us.

Aerobridge is simple mechanical equipment, any engineering equipment manufacturers like Tatas, Mahindras can easily get into this business. However Indian fascination of importing such equipments for various reasons and limited market for such Indian products made them to think twice before indulging in any such venture.
ATR is no belly aircraft hence there is no question of connecting such aircraft to the aerobridge. One must appreciate Mr. Rao, for his ability in putting things together.

Good news. Keep a spare shuttle bus in case something goes wrong with these aerobriges. We want to see good usage of tax we are paying everytime. A month back we had a very tough time in rainy season as aircraft was stationed very far from waiting lounge. It was raining heavily and they provided umbrellas. But still it is very diffcult to carry handbags, kids and umbrella in hand & to walk. Those boys providing umbrellas did a very great job, running between lounge and near to the aircraft.Hope this new aerobridges will be maintained well to provide longlasting service to passengers.
