Mangalore, Nov 8: The members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike under the leadership of Dakshina Kannada Karnataka Rakshana Vedike president Annayya Kulal and working president George P V, demanded Kannada boards to be placed at Central Railway Station here on Monday November 8.
The members who met Neeliath Chandran, station manager demanded that Kannada boards should be placed in order to ease inconveniences faced by the state passengers, who are not able to read Hindi and English and also set a deadline. They also termed it as the injustice meted out by the railways to the people of Karnataka.
Through the memorandum, the Vedike warned that it will take up strong protests in the coming days, and even may go to remove boards and put Kannada boards if the concerned do not respond to the demands positively. The vedike gave 15 days of deadline to which station manager said that more time was required for the same.
However, his poor approach towards the issue irked few members, who expressed their displeasure by adding sarcastically that they were just demanding to place the boards written in Kannada and not a new building to be erected among others. The members argued that 15 days was more than enough.
Members also alleged that that most of the contracts are given to people of other states by publishing advertisements in non-kannada newspapers thereby deliberately evading Kannadigas. They also demanded that all the railway contract works should be advertised in Kannada.
