Mangalore, Nov 9:
The city's Central railway station will soon get a new access point, apart from a new booking counter.

This was revealed by S K Raina, Southern Railway divisional manager, at meeting held at Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Tuesday November 9.

The new entrance will be at Attavar, while the booking counter will be opened near Wenlock hospital which has enough parking space to accomodate a considerable number of vehicles.

Moreover, he said that work on the construction of the second overbridge at the station is expected to begin in three to four months. The project, which is slated to finish in a couple of years, has already received the green signal from the railway department, he informed.

Corporator Appi said that both the state and the union governments have promised to allot Rs six crore for the construction of the foot overbridge. The remaining amount would be granted by the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC). However, Raina denied having received any official intimation in this regard from the MCC.

Issues like unreasonable prices charged at the railway station restaurant and the pathetic condition of the road connecting Kankanady junction and the city were also raised in the meeting.

G G Mohandas Prabhu, president of KCCI, and others were present.

    Dear Max and Jessie

China has really surged forward with a single agenda..infrastructure development. No wonder China now attracts the highest number of tourists in the world. In India each and every development project becomes embroiled in various issues, problems with land aquisitions, middle men, subcontracts, lack of accountability and the biggest headache ..corruption. Corruption is the biggest barrier to our development ...

Its high time that all our Railway stations get a "new face lift". When the travel facilities improve the travelling public will automatically be encouraged to pay more for their ticket in order to justify the costs of maintaining and upkeeping the railway stations and the railway journey. We travelled by a night train not too long ago from Beijing to Shanghai. What a luxury of travel indeed. The railway stations are fit to be some large Museums filled with comfort and luxury. Boarding a train was like boarding a Boeing 747 jet airways with so many courtesies and services with so many tour guides. Immediately after we boarded the train they served us with a nice light dinner and before the time came for us to sleep they took away all the food trays and trash from our compartment. The toilets were well maintained and the safety of night travel was very visible. The night journey from Beijing to Shanghai was the smoothest journey of our life. There were hardly a few people who could speak English but language was not a barrier. It was a comfort filled with a silky service all the way to Shanghai. If China can do it why not India ??

Before very tall-promises let, the Railways and the MCC start the work of the approach road to the M'lore-Jn Railway Station. The authority should not to forget to install a Signboard with an Arrow-Mark at the NH-48 Bye-Pass Jn with ‘MANGALORE JUNCTION’ written in Kannada, English and Hindi.

What is presented is only part of what is needed. An important need is that the East side of the station is also basically developed from the jungle that it is now for better needs and security. One vital and basic need is to scrap the Bundar Good Shed track and shift the ops to Panambur and Junction. It is a hurdle now and a great disturbance to the development and people friendliness of that part of the city. Now it only contributes to traffic chaos, pollution, Noise, cement dust and much more. Let the Government and concerned take up these matters immediately.Thanks.

They have not been able to sort out the problem of crowd waiting in queue for ticketing and thus blocking the path of those seek entry into station. A simple partition could solve this major problem. But, seems like they are very much reluctant. Only interested in something BIG.
