Madikeri, Nov 15: It has been five years since over 576 grams of gold jewellery were stolen from a house in the district. However, the stolen items have not been recovered. House owner Kavyashree, had written a letter to the Prime Minister, seeking his help in getting back the stolen items. It has been three years since then but there is no progress.

The woman has approached the office of the district superintendent of police and the media seeking progress in the theft case.

In most of the cases, in spite of their meticulous planning, thieves leave behind one or the other clue. But in this case, the theft happened in front of the police station. The thieves had taken away all the gold ornaments found in the house including dozens of ear hangings.

Theft had occurred in a house in front of Ponnampet police station occupied by Kavyashree and Uthappa couple in 2016. The police had undertaken investigation and even sniffer dogs had been employed but no clues were found. It came as a surprise for the couple and the people as the people took the case lightly even though 576 grams of gold and silver items were lost. The thieves had broken the almirah in the house open and taken away ornaments.

There was no headway in the theft case filed in Ponnampet police station in 2016. Kavyshree who complained to the police, was confident that the police would do something and return her ornaments. But within two years, another theft happened in her home. In the theft which happened in 2018, the ornaments which the couple had got again by putting together income from plantation and their salaries, were stolen again. This came as a rude shock for the couple.

Kavya then wrote to the Prime Minister, explaining her situation. From the PM's office, a letter was sent to Ponnampet police station seeking action. But the police have failed to show any progress in the investigation. As such, Kavyashree has been visiting the office of the superintendent of police and the media again. At the same time, some other police stations including the Chikkajala police personnel have been able to crack more complicated cases where murder threats were also posed.
