Mangaluru, Dec 8: "BJP has been distancing itself from its original policies like Hindutva, financial and external policies. My stand is that these issues have to be addressed first. I am not opposed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi but am opposing the faulty policies he has been following," said firebrand senior BJP leader, former union minister and Rajya Sabha member, Dr Subramanian Swamy.

He was speaking to media representatives after he visited the residence of Padma Vibhushan Dr B M Hegde as part of his visits to Udupi and Sringeri.

Swamy said he is unhappy about the meek stand owned by the Modi government against the militant policies of China. He said he had fought against the efforts of the government in Uttarakhand to take over ancient temples. I had brought a stay against the breaking of Ram Setu by approaching the court. Modi government has not yet turned Ram Setu into a heritage site. I have brought my unhappiness on these issues to the attention of the concerned through various letters," he stated.

He said that being a professor of economics, he has ideas to achieve financial progress of the country despite adverse impact of coronavirus. He felt that the government has not been using these opportunities properly. He said that his stand is that the wrong policies have to be reversed and corrected, duly adding that we are in a democratic system, nor autocratic.

He however, said that despite differences, he has always been loyal to Jan Sangh and the BJP and there is no question of leaving this party. He asked the media not to aasign any special political meaning to his meeting Mamata Banerjee during her visit to Delhi recently, duly adding that she happens to be an old friend of his. He said that he had discussed with her about the condition of Hindu temples in West Bengal and conveyed to her about the dissatisfaction of Hindus on this issue.

Swamy stayed overnight in the residence of Dr Krishna Shetty after arriving in the city at 6.30 pm on Tuesday. He will visit Sringeri on Wednesday morning and come back to Udupi to take part in a programme of Sri Krishna Math at the Rajangan there.
