Karkala, Dec 10: The residence of Prafulla Menezes, wife of Lt Col Harjinder Singh who lost his life in an unfortunate helicopter crash near Ooty in Tamil Nadu, was enveloped in eerie silence on Thursday December 9, as the family was finding it hard to digest the tragedy that struck them.

Mary Menezes, mother of Prafulla Menezes, and mother-in-law of the late Lt Col Harjinder, said that her daughter, in spite of coming face to face with such a huge loss in her life, said encouraging words and pacified her, her daughter Pushpa, and Pushpa's husband, Valerian.

A large number of relatives, classmates of Prafulla and others visited the residence of the family at Salmara here to share the grief.

Philips Menezes and Mary Menezes from Karkala, have two daughters and two sons including Prafulla. Both the sons are abroad while the elder sister is in Karkala. Prafulla Menezes, youngest among the children, is a teacher in the military school at New Delhi. She had married Lt Col Harjinder 15 years back, and the couple has a son.

Prafulla, who was brilliant from a young age, completed higher education before bagging a job as a teacher in the military school, New Delhi. The couple had visited Karkala three months ago along with son.

The family had been briefed about the incident on the day its son-in-law breathed his last. The family then called Prafulla, when she remained sober and said pacifying words to the family, Mary Menezes said.
