Bengaluru: 'People need not be worried' - Bommai allays fears over anti-conversion bill

From our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Dec 12: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai sought to allay the fears over the BJP government’s move to bring the anti-conversion bill during the Belagavi session of the State Legislature, all set to commence from Monday, and assured that the people need not be worried over the issue.

Speaking to the media representatives at Hubballi on Sunday, on the eve of the Belagavi session of the State Legislature, the Chief Minister clarified that Hindu, Christian, Islam and Sikh religions are among the religions recognised under Indian Constitution and there was no problems with regard to their prayers and rituals.

However, there is no scope for conversion by luring people by misusing their conditions of poverty through monetary and other means, the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the debate on conversion was not new and has been going on since Independence. Many States have brought in anti-conversion laws and "most of people of Karnataka" want a law based on such laws in the State too.

The State’s Law Department is examining the issue and the subject will be discussed in the State Cabinet after the Law Department completes its study. The matter will come up before the Cabinet when it meets in Belagavi, he said.

"If the Law Department approves the draft legislation, it will be taken up for discussion in the State Legislature," Bommai said.

The Chief Minister went on to assert that conversion was not good and was harmful to society. "The poor, downtrodden and oppressed sections should not fall prey to attempts to convert people by offering money or other attractions. The State Government wants to bring the anti-conversion law in order to protect such helpless people," he said.

Hope for a meaningful debate

The Chief Minister said the State Legislature is meeting at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha built in Belagavi after a gap of two years and hoped that the session will result in meaningful and fruitful debates on several burning issues before Karnataka.

Bommai said the State Government and the Legislature Secretariat have made elaborate preparations for holding the session in Belagavi. ‘’I wish and hope that the session will lead to meaningful and development oriented debate on the problems facing the State, especially the Northern parts of Karnataka,’’ he added.

We know this is nothing but foul play. Burning the Bibles is seriously heights of arrogance. The Word of God is life and Prevails. You cannot take what is on the inside. The Apostles too faced persecution but they never were shaken in their faith. We have Jesus and he will lead us in victory. In that situation of Anti conversion law kindly don't send your kids to Christian schools and universities. it's hypocrisy you use English language taught by Christians. You use cappuccino coffee brought by The Portuguese, You use an Android or Apple iPhone created in Christian countries and talk of conversion. And most importantly you use a car manufactured in a Christian country . Why you don't ride on a bullock cart? Please refraim from sending your children to top universities abroad, as you are afraid they will convert. I have only one thing to say : "This is being double minded. And a double minded person is unstable in all his waye. " Moreover unless The Lord turns a man to his own no one can come near God. So don't worry, we know Jesus is with us and we will see miracles. Jesus bless us all.

So in short if a hindu friend of mine is in monetary distress due to loss of job me sharing some groceries with him or offering to give free tuitions to her children is seen as a act of forceful conversion. Got it bro👍 From now on everybody only associate with your own kind. The rest of the world can burn who cares. But now the dilemma is wht abt those individuals who claim to have supernatural encounters or chose a faith based on quest on eternal peace...wht then.

I have a question to the respected CM, if he has the time and courtesy to reply. There has been a spate of incidents of attacks on churchs and today we heard about another attack where holy books were burnt and the priest chased with a sword. So what kind of law are you planning to implement against such attacks? Becausr 8 am sure you know christians are a diminishing caste and yet you are afraid that we are converting Hindus. If so i am very sure you are a leader who will also have strigent actions against people who attack churches

Priority...to get a few votes what politicians will do is the fear from now on .. Politicians / parties know they will get booted out otherwise .. so to be relevant indulge ..anti conversion.. minority bashing etc ... Overall societies.. communities across ..are generally living happily .. Constant external provocation is the FEAR ... So to allay all fears pls stay away from anti conversion politics ...& such similar .. Concentrate on jobs .. Highest unemployment figures coming out .. We are worst performing in terms of jobs in Asia .. Mere gdp growth has no meaning ... Ambani Adani crosses 100 billion in personal wealth but crores unemployed .. is this a happy situation.. This law is simple. As per this bill ,if a Christian school give a scholarship to a Hindu student or invite a Hindu man home for a lunch ,and in turn the Hindu man complain to police that the Christian tried to convert him ,then police can arrest the Christian (non-bailable ) straight away and make the whole family to run to the court, police ,lawyer etc. The onus to prove innocence in court is on Christian and not Hindu man...This gives Sangha parivar immense sadistic pleasure....

Is there any update on those development, any work in progress and report of money spent?????….Instead now we see only communal and religious issue’s works in progress which were not announced and promised by you. There is a separate department and authority to look after these issues as enshrined in the constitution. Your duty is to uphold and protect people’s right and not to do anything against it.

The Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore had written during British rule collection of poems .... Gitanjali .. it got the nobel prize .. Now in independent India unfortunately and sadly we have to revisit because of all follies of ruling dispensation ..the vote bank politics has to stop .. ———- “Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high, where knowledge is free. Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls. Where words come out from the depth of truth, where tireless striving stretches its arms toward perfection. Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit. Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever widening thought and action. In to that heaven of freedom, my father, LET MY COUNTRY AWAKE!” ― Nobel Prize Winner Rabindranath Tagore, Gitanjali

Some people are asking why fear if you have nothing to hide. Well, here are some examples of events in that have actually happened over the past few months. The goons arrive at places where Christians are praying. They enter the places and destroy the sound system and furniture. They shout slogans and beat up the people who are in attendance. Then they call the police who arrive and file a case on the Christian leaders -just on the complaints of the goons. The people are asked not to assemble for prayer by the police with the excuse of maintaining law and order! Sometimes the Christian leaders are arrested and taken to the police station. All of this on the verbal accusations of the goons from organizations like bajrang dal and other similar organizations. If this is the reality when the law is PROPOSED, anyone can imagine what will be the reality when the law is PASSED. Empty words don't mean anything politicians. People have lost trust in your meaningless empty words!

Cm. Should act like a strong leader and be decisive than. Depends on others. One side he is supporting this bill and pass it on law department. Buddy this the right of the citizen of India to practice faith freely without your permission. Poor people are helped by Christian so what? When people turn To Christianity be proud of it because they will be loyal Indians and help build India generously than doing unwanted stuff. Look at Christian’s in India today work hard and contribute to the growth of India. Hardly see Christian’s are involved with terrorism. Be proud to be followe of christ. More Christian’s better peaceful society and educated beautiful surroundings one can have anywhere

If Gulihatti Shettars' allegation that forceful conversion is happening in his constituency is the cause for bringing this bill, then the Tahsildhar report has dismissed this allegation as incorrect. Then why the bill? Why is the Bommai Government adamant? Why are atrocities happening throughout the country in BJP ruled states against Christians? Does Bommai have an answer to this? Attack on a school in Madhya Pradesh - in Bhopal- while students were answering the exam shows how the law was allowed to be taken into the hands of the miscreants. It is scandalous and shameful.

If poverty is the reason people are ready to convert then CM should address poverty first and then there will be no conversion. Anti conversion law is not the answer to this problem. So long as poverty exists caste discrimination exists in Hindu society people will be ready to convert for their daily bread and life of dignity and respect.

This kind of insecurity and malice towards the minoroties by the BJP has led to widespread embarassment in many of our Hindu brothers and sisters. But unfortunately while the majority of our Hindu brothers and sisters, have chosen to stay mum and that is why many ruffians are still attacking churches. Forced conversion is a myth but the bjp and its goons and politicians dont want to believe or agree, because they will not be left with any agenda then. If anyone is converting into any other relegion it is not easy. But if one really thibks they have been forced, then their former faith was never true. But I want an answer from bjp and bommai, can you stop anyone from.going to hell or can you gaurantee anyone a place in heaven. If you cant gaurantee either one of these 2, you should leave religion to God.

A Sanghi is always coward and deceitful at heart. To make life miserable for minorities they have created 2 bills. One is Love Jihad bill to throw Muslims in jails and the other Anti-conversion bill to throw Christian into jail. Sanghis use state power to crush the minorites. We are not worried Mr. CM. Our ancestors have not forsaken their their faith even after going through the worst persecutions in history, the worst under Tippu Sultan where more than 80,000 perished but still we are here. As long as the the purpose of the anti conversion bill is to prevent the forceful conversions, then no one will have any issue as we catholics dont believe in numbers but only the true followers. You do what your bosses tells you as you have to satisfy them to remain in power.

But several generations down, it doesn't make a difference. So if your are happy with the Christian faith, I am happy for you. As for me, I don't believe in the existence of god of any denomination.
