Christian population has come down in Karnataka: K J George

Belagavi (Karnataka), Dec 13 (IANS): Former Karnataka minister and senior Congress leader K.J. George on Monday said the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is planning to table the anti-conversion bill with an "ulterior motive", claiming the population of Christians in the southern state has come down.

"The population of the Christian community has come down in the state. I request the Chief Minister (Basavaraj Bommai), and the government not to bring a legislation in this regard (anti-conversion)," he said.

"This law will encourage moral policing. Hinduism is strong in the country. Even after the arrival of Mughals and Portuguese, the population of Hindus is more in the country," he said.

George further said "the Constitution is very clear on forceful conversions. It does not give room for it. It also provides opportunity for those who want to get converted to another religion", adding: "We also oppose forceful conversions."

Meanwhile, Opposition leader Siddaramaiah stated that his party (Congress) does not support the proposed Anti-Conversion bill.

"The BJP's intentions are cruel and political. There is no necessity to bring the law at this juncture. The party is targeting one community. We will oppose the bill," he said.

Reacting to this, former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said Siddaramaiah has made it a habit to oppose everything.

"The anti-conversion law will be introduced in the session. Such laws are already in place in many states. Even Congress leaders are appreciative and supporting the bill," he said.

He further stated that he welcomed the statement of minister Sunil Kumar's statement on bringing new law prohibiting "Love Jihad".

ALL the World if we compare any religion Christianity leads every walk of life. Before Lord Jesus was born angel told to mary his name is called wonderful. Jesus who is born in manger lived only 33 years. He came to this World to establish Gods kingdom where peace and prosperity prevail. His impact was so much that today more than 150 Countries follow him. World changed after advent of Christianity. The greatest achievement is Democracy & Human rights. Most of His followers are sober in nature because Jesus said he is meek in heart.Today one may belong to any faith but same time he is also imitating Christian life style like from calendar to Aeroplane. Not convert to any religion but atleast try to understand who Jesus is. Thanks

Reason for decrease in Christian population is migration, If you want to increase your population don't use religious conversation method which will create fight between communities. We don't want see religious distress anymore!!

Conversion is in your mind nothing in reality, till today you have not able to give a statement from a single person who said he was forcefully converted. There is no religious distress all religions teaches that all should live in peace it's only politician who try to make an issue for electrol gains.

I am sure this was the main reason to bring in Bommai in place of Yeddy. Any law without the detailed documentary evidence/support/numbers and a proper case study before implementing will go as a flop or perish soon like the Farm Laws!!! So it's better instead of tabling the Bill in a Hurry, Govt. takes sufficient time on this to study its Pros and Cons and then bring it. There are many other issues on Development of Karanataka, like the Value Based and Scientific tempered Education to All, Affordable Healthcare facilities to All, Employment to All, Good Infrastructure facilities like Road, Water, Food, Housing, Sanitary, Mobile Network, Internet, etc to All, Strict and Unbiased Law and Justice system to All Uplifting of the Poor etc, etc needs to be addressed on Priority!!! Jai Hind!!!

"This law will encourage moral policing. Hinduism is strong in the country. Even after the arrival of Mughals and Portuguese, the population of Hindus is more in the country," Above cannot be a reason for opposing the bill. Meanwhile, more you oppose more the BJP gets support from fence sitters and that is the only objective why they are bringing the anti conversion law. So do not oppose so that their agenda cannot be achieved. I am for bringing anti love jihad law as I personally do not support conversions by marrying a girl from other faith. She marries a person with true love forgetting about his religion. We must not use it for converting her to our religion but instead the couple should respect each others religions.

what a JOKE by law makers. |They are 80% and say that they are in danger. Muslims and Christians will never say they are in danger. They are 80% and they think this law will make them 100%?.. What type of fools we have at the Assembly. People who want to convert can always do so, you are creating a excitement about converting Christianity. Its a like a Bollywood movie, where more you talk about banning the movie more people excited to watch it. It is not a machine, it is a faith and belief and people who believe in Christianity will never come back and one who want to be converted can do so more safer with new law. They can apply for a permission in any court of law and your corrupt system will not even check what is happening, they will just take money and put a stamp and signature on it. I agree if you say this is promise of employment that you made to thousands of youth will turn out to be touts to get a permission from court to those who want to convert. Christianity is something is unique and you no need to attend church and you can pray from anywhere and you remain a Christian. Your worry is your votes are decreasing and believe me it will go down in the history because of your torture to those who converted at free will , there will be more conversions and more losses of votes . Your never care if someone is not allowed to enter a temple and if someone is ill treated by a so called superior community. You never care if someone could not study in English medium, you never care if someone could not get married at right age. Your intentions will prove it what blunder you did in this era where people have or two kids and the kids are busy with mobiles and social media. They don't care about what laws you bring . They will do anything when they fall in love. They will convert to any religion when they want to get married . They will compare themselves with Khans of Bollywood and Dharmendra Hema Malini who become Muslims just to get married.

Readers, Christian population, across denominations and sects have tragically come down drastically, since independence, with the exception in the North eastern states !!! The reasons are obviously late marriages, many choose not to get married.. most families have just one child.. mixed marriages and lastly the young educated prefer to migrate to developed nations !!! In Mumbai, Christians have virtually disappeared from the financial capital, into distant suburbs, leaving behind empty churches and institutions !!!

Veer Nagpur, sometimes you better not give comments which are above your understanding. Many people in catholic community become Priests or Nuns ,that also to be counted. So no more popuations to be expected.Second since catholics are more better educated than rest, want to settle only when theycan afford, and think before enlarging their family. Most of catholics are out of India and try to settle there seeing chaos in India and for the education of their children.Love for the motherland is not enough to lead a peaceful life. One who cant remain back .In foreign ,churches are mostly empty because many people doesnt take religion so serious, many comeout of church ,to save their taxes from salary,,some get converted,so no money to for churches to renovations ,to look after the payment of people who work for it..

Jossy bhai, when you say enjoying at the outskirts of Mangalore city,it means you have no problems here to live. Then why did you say many are migrating to other countries. Please understand that many who belong to General quota have shifted to other countries since from past 70 years just because their merits have no significance here in this country. Just because of appeasement politics to get votes , political parties have neglected meritorious people. There are many hindus migrated to US than Christians for your kind info.

Situation in Karnataka is much better than our neighbouring state of Kerala where every alternative Christian girls are converted and sent to Syria to fight for jihad. No Christian organization is fighting to save such unfortunate girls, but when it comes to Karnataka whete a fair bill is being introduced to safe guard the interest of all communites than a big protst is being launched to derail the law.

What you call blind thought is unfortunately a real fact. It may be an exaggeration for those sitting in Nagpur. In Kerala there are instances where girls have been befriended using fake names, drugged, raped, filmed, blackmailed and finally compelled to convert with the sole motive of transporting them to Syria. Kerala has sent the highest number of recruits to the dreaded ISIS. You can get the actual statistics from the State Minorities Commission now under the ruling CPM. I am too not in favour of anti-conversion law. Still if the govt. is adamant on such a law then I demand that it should be fair and just, including prosecution for those who frame charges and file false cases. Otherwise there won’t be any difference between anti-conversion law and the blasphemy law of Pakistan.
