Mangaluru: Passenger from Ghana tests Covid positive - Omicron worries in coast

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 18: A passenger who arrived at the airport here from Ghana on Friday December 17 tested positive for Covid19. This has given rise to worries about the omicron variant of the deadly virus spreading its wings in coastal Karnataka. Ghana has been treated as a 'high risk' nation and the passenger referred above tested positive in the rapid RT-PCR test conducted at the airport.

Thereafter, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Rajendra K V, held a meeting with the officials of the airport including health officer, district surveillance officer, Covid nodal officer and others holding different charges. The deputy commissioner told the media after the meeting that measures needed to maintain control over the disease were discussed.

The deputy commissioner confirmed that the said passenger has been isolated in the district Wenlock Hospital from Friday night and that he is asymptomatic. None of the other passengers in the said flight displayed any symptoms of the disease. As many as 27 passengers who arrived by the said flight have been identified as primary contacts and they have been quarantined by the health department, the DC stated.

cynthiaji, it is possible that the test results were different / false... most africa flights transit via dubai / gulf... during the flying time from ghana to gulf he could have got infected from co-passengers... many cases have been reported where people tested positive on arrival even though were tested negative before boarding...

no need to worry... there may be 100s of cases roaming around, since omicron does not have severe symptoms... also 100s of cases might be crossing back and forth from thalapadi border...

This could have been avoided. I am.sure he is notvs direct flight passenger. Why was not tested at transit airport . If transit passengers they should do RPT in transit airport itself ( my just a suggestion). Was his PCR report checked at his boarding airport how could he board & get positive in 24 hrs ?

One thing learnt from the first and second wave is it is impossible to stop spread. You can check 100 times, before getting on to the flight, on the steps of the flight, in the flight, getting down from the flight, in the arrival lounge..it will still spread. Better is to do what you can do..vaccinate yourself, wear masks, maintain hygiene and try to keep physical distancing.. Still if your number comes, it will come. You cannot do anything. Just hope that you come out ok.

One more thing.. If you have mild symptoms also, get tested or atleast isolate yourselves early so that you dont do the spreading
