Bahrain: Daisy Coelho Elected President of New Agnesian Alumnae
Media Release
Bahrain, Nov 27: About 30 Agnesians, young and old, of batches as far back as the '60s and as recent as that of 2009 were present at the Agnesian meet held here recently to meet and felicitate Dr Sr Marie Prem D'Souza, principal of St Agnes College.
The event was held at Sacred Heart Church, Manama, Bahrain under the guidance of Sr Benedicta of Sacred Heart School from 6.30 pm to 9 pm.
It was a trip down memory lane for many of the Agnesians, who spent all their school and college days - some of them right from nursery to the final year degree (spanning over 15 years) in one institution. Some of them had even shared their college days with Sr Prem when she was a student herself.
After a brief introduction by Daisy Coelho, Sr Benedicta commenced the get-together with a hymn. Nelissa Almeida then welcomed Sr Prem and introduced her to the Agnesians and spoke of her role as principal of St Agnes College. A bouquet was presented by a senior Agnesian, Ivy Rebello, who was on holiday from Canada.
Sr Prem in her address provided an insight into the current developments at St Agnes College, how it has progressed over the years and the plans on the anvil. She encouraged the ladies to form an Agnesian alumnae association in Bahrain, which was welcomed by the audeince. The association was formed, and the following office bearers were appointed:
Daisy Coelho - president
Syrha Goveas - secretary
Genevieve Rego - treasurer
Ten others were appointed as committee members of Agnesian alumnae, Bahrain.
The evening continued with a fun game organised by Nelissa, which kept the ladies and the sisters on their toes. The highlight of the day was the rendition of some old English and Konkani numbers which were sung in unison.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Daisy followed by a memento presentation to Sr Prem by senior Agnesian Edna Sequeira.
The Agnesian anthem 'God is our strength' was sung with full fervour. A fellowship was then organised, which included dinner, to conclude the evening.
