Shivamogga: Dreaded naxal, Hosagadde Prabha surrenders to Tamil Nadu police

Shivamogga, Dec 20: Hosagadde Prabha, abouit whom rumours said that she had died in 2010, surfaced in Tamil Nadu and surrendered to the police. She surrendered at Tirupattur police station, Vellore, Tamil Nadu.

Prabha's husband, B G Krishnamurthy, who is said to be the brain behind many naxal operations, had been arrested by the Tamil Nadu police recently. It is said that after the arrest of her husband, Prabha was suffering from depression.

Prabha is from Hosagadde in Agumbe in Chikkamagaluru district. She was in the forefront of naxal activities. Many in her organization died in police encounter while some others deserted the organization due to ideological differences. Some surrendered to the police.

In 2010, rumour about the death of Prabha had spread, and a village elder had received a call from an unknown person asking her fellow villagers to pay last tributes to Prabha as she had died. Even though the police too suspected that she was no more, the then superintendent of police, Murugan, took the stand that till her body is recovered or concrete evidence was available, she could not be declared as dead.

Later, the police got information that she was active in Kerala. Her husband, B G Krishnamurthy, Savitri, Vikram Gowda etc had shifted their base to Kerala. With the receding of naxal activities, and the arrest of some leading naxals, Prabha has surrendered. There is information that other naxals too plan to surrender. Prabha faces over 40 cases in Karnataka like vandalizing shop at Tallur, torching of a bus etc. The government had declared a prize of five lac rupees to anyone who provided concrete information about her. It is said that she has now been suffering from paralysis.
