Kasargod: Periya turns into security bastion on eve of Presidential visit

Kasargod, Dec 21: President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, will take part in the fifth convocation of the central university being held at Periya in the district on Monday December 21. In the light of the President's visit, the entire Periya region is under the protective cover of security forces.

Police, intelligence, fire brigade and other things are in place. The President will land at Kannur airport at 12.30 pm on Tuesday. He will travel to Periya by a helicopter and take part in the convocation scheduled at 3.20 pm. 563 students of the 2018-20 batch will receive their degree certificates.

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and minister M V Govindan, are among those who will participate in the programme. The state chief secretary has permitted 7,000 people including the 563 students who are graduating from the university, to take part in the programme.

In the light of this visit, vehicular movement has been restricted from 10 am on December 21 till 5.30 pm from Meengoth on national highway to Chattanchal and again from Pallikere on state highway to Kalanadu, and again, on the cross road from Chattanchal to Kalanadu via Meengoth. The movement of buses and other light vehicles will be allowed in a controlled manner. However, heavy vehicles will not be permitted to enter the sections of the roads mentioned above till evening.
