Udupi: No permanent job - 38-year-old guest lecturer ends life out of depression

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Dec 24: At a time when guest lecturers have been boycotting classes all over the state and holding protests demanding confirmation of jobs, job security, increase in honorarium and such other demands, a guest lecturer ended his life.

Sriharsha Shanbhogue (38), who died by suicide, was a guest lecturer of computer section of the government first grade college in Thirthahalli, Shivamogga district. He hanged himself in the staff quarters of MGM College here on Thursday December 23. His wife, Shilpa Shanbhogue, is a guest lecturer in MGM College Udupi. The couple has two children.

Sriharsha, who had been serving as a guest lecturer for the last 13 years, was depressed at the fact that his job was not made permanent. He was overtaken by worries about the future of his children. He often expressed these feelings with his close ones. During the recent months, he had become mentally weak and was also getting treated for this problem, his wife said in a complaint.

People are blaming the poor deceased lecturer or the political party for the suicide, its high time we Indians take Depression and mental health seriously , this person was the victim of depression , we have to accept that depression like heart attack and other diseases can kill you , its very unfortunate that his friends and family members failed to notice his deteriorating mental health. everyone has different capacity to cope with mental pressure , if you find anyone tensed or depressed assure him your support instead of blaming the system / political party / covid /inflation etc

These lives could have been saved, had we understood what it takes to build a family. A steady income is above all other security. Let us get off the 'save our religion' to 'save our lives'.

You do understand he was depressed right? The first thing is the depression that one needs to be helped with and then his mind would have allowed him to think of a job else where. I feel bad for him that even after medical help was provided he couldn’t cope with life.. Depression has turned out to be a secret killer but a lot of the don’t even know what it is .. God be with his family. Breaks my heart that he decided to leave when he was so young … To those blaming others and the political parties- Please stop blaming and start helping people cope up.. or else there’ll be hardly anyone left in the world to be blamed or even spoken to..

RIP bro. People worried about tomorrow and commit suicide which is not acceptable.suicide increase problems. If you truly believe in God you will not worry about tomorrow. We should keep in mind Jesus prayer. Our father in heaven give us this day our daily h Hére Jesus is asking us to pray for today's needs. Not tomorrow. We don't know about tomorrow Tomorrow is not in our hands Tomorrow morning if we wake up Definitely he is there to feed us. This is my belief.

Corruption and hypocrisy of ruling politicians end up difficult for many live a peaceful life. Surely this gentleman must have voted for BJP expecting ACHE DIN. But never knew this kind of BURE DIN would come after voting for BJP. This Govt has totally ignored the Guest Faculty. They can pass Anti Conversion laws in haste but have no time to look into the long pending demands of the guest faculty. How can Guest faculty survive on 6 months salary at Rs 11000 per month. Can they look after a family with this salary of Rs 66000 for a year. Very INSENSITIVE BJP SARKAR.
