5,789 NGOs' licence under FCRA cancelled as on date, MHA clarifies

New Delhi, Jan 1: They also said that these associations did not apply for FCRA renewal despite the reminder of the ministry, so naturally their FCRA licences automatically got cancelled on January 1, 2022.

"Out of the 18,778 NGOs whose FCRA licences were supposed to be renewed between September 30, 2020 and December 31, 2021, only 12,989 associations applied for scrutiny before the competent authority under MHA. Therefore, the authorisation to receive foreign donations for 5,789 NGOs has been cancelled as of now, because of non-renewal of FCRA," the officials explained.

The officials added that during the process of scrutiny of 12,989 NGOs, 179 were rejected because of non-compliance with the criteria of the amended FCRA provisions.

As on date, there are 16,829 NGOs active with their FCRA valid documents, they further said.

Earlier on Saturday, it was reported that applications for renewal of over 12,000 NGOs, including Oxfam and the Jamia Milia Islamia, were not cleared by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The MHA did not disclose the names of the prominent NGOs which have been denied the renewal of FCRA licence.

A communal bent and a criminal mindset can come up with any reason and every reason to stop foreign funding but ensure that they get money through dubious cunning ways and through electoral bonds. MP-CARES is the best example we have how to be accountable to money received from the public. It's a private fund. We are a lawless nation, as it appears making funny laws.

I am sure many of those NGOs are receivers of donations from rich Indians, who benefit though 80G to save their IT payment. Well, the issue is not just about receiving foreign funds, these NGOs function for both donations, national and international. What will be next if these NGOs closed, the 80G saints will give it to Gau-shelters. Great ! Let humans die of hunger, be destitute, who cares ?

Grate Loss for the Country (India). Any foreign remittance to NGO or a family member/relative/friend/well wisher sending money to India bring much needed foreign exchange to the country and it is free money for a poor country like our. Any Government which has interest in the well being of it Citizen will not bring restrictions on free flow of foreign funds.

The FCRA licence cancelled for about 5,800 entities all over India. I imagine, at least 2% of these are Mangaluru entities. That is, at least 100 Mangaluru-based entities cannot get any foreign funding. How come none of them are saying anything? Were most of them FAKE charities? I would be very keen to hear their reaction. I heard from a Mallu friend that at least 1,000 of these cancelled NGOs are Kerala-based, and apparently it is a big business there.

All cancelled licenses will be renewed not by existing laws and rules but by govt’s newly unconstitutionally passed laws and rules.

First time since 1947 independence this is happening. Can’t believe such high number of 5,789 NGO licenses are cancelled for the expenses of humanitarian work!?!?!…..Who is compensating and taking care of the poor and down trodden?????…Is govt investigating reason for not renewal or govt forced them to close down and now acting innocent as usual like it’s doing to Mother Teresa Missionaries of charity ?????…. Govt will not do anything except empty promises to the poor. This is very heart breaking and height of cruelty by the govt to cancel so many licenses.
