Mangalore, Dec 7: White Doves, which runs two homes for the destitutes in the city, is all set to make Christmas a special, memorable experience for Mangaloreans, especially for the underprivileged.
From Friday December 10 to Sunday December 12, White Doves will organise a mobile pageant depicting episodes from the Bible and from the life of Jesus Christ.
The tableau will be performed on platform trucks that will serve as stages, parked at pre-designated vantage points in and around the city. There will be five such trucks. The shows will begin in the evenings, soon after sunset.
On December 10, the shows will be performed at Nellyadi junction at 6 pm and Nettane junction at 8.30 pm. On December 11, it will be at Deralakatte junction at 6 pm and later Fr Muller's Hospital grounds at 8 pm.
The tableau will be staged at Nehru Maidan on December 12 at 6 pm and near Circuit House, Kadri at 8 pm.
The White Doves pageant over the last couple of years has come to be known for its quality of sound and lighting, with no interruption between scenes and for its artistic excellence. The content, costumes and performances are designed to capture the hearts of both young and old. There are over a hundred performers, each of them chosen for their talent and trained weeks in advance.
About half an hour before the show a party of singers and musicians will arrive at the spot and announce the programme, besides providing an endearing entertainment session with foot-tapping Christmas carols to create the right atmosphere. Several costumed ‘Santas’ dancing to Jingle Bells will cheer the people, especially children, with candies.
The White Doves are a band of concerned and joyful people who spread their own brand of peace and blessings of Christmas everyday of the year. At present they run two homes for the destitute, one at Jail Road and the other at Mannagudda. White Doves have undertaken their humanitarian work inspired by the teachings of Christ and the life of Mother Teresa.
The tableaux will portray parables from the New Testament blended with local flavour and even the Crucification of Christ.
