Udupi: Flying times fail to convince Swamiji to replace Ambassador car

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jan 17: Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji of Krishnapur Math who will be taking over charge of Sri Krishna Math as his Math will be in charge of its affairs for two years as per rotational system, is a living example of how a seer who has given up all worldly attachments should live. It may surprise the people to know that he still uses the 1973 model Ambassador car.

The Ambassador car bearing registration No MEG 653 has been with the Swamiji for the last 48 years. With the changing times, the taste of the Swamiji has remained unchanged, and he has kept his old car duly getting it serviced from time to time.

The Swamiji uses this car for participating in functions, meetings, discourses or pilgrimages. Those who know the Swamiji closely say that he has never considered suggestions made by those who know him well to acquire a luxury car favourably. The Swamiji firmly is dedicated to the principles of simplicity, observance of traditions, and following religious advice. He has never been enamoured by the attraction of riches, gadgets or luxurious things. He also does not like giving importance to technology. His way of life is simple and he is simplicity personified, they say, adding that in the life of the Swamiji, there is no scope for any luxury.

The said diesel engine Ambassador car that is parked in the shed of Krishnapur Math however, gives rise to curiosity among the people passing by. Many devotees coming to participate in the Paryaya festival curiously look at the car and get themselves photographed with it.

Karamballi Srinivas Barithaya, father of Udupi MLA K Raghupati Bhat, had served as the driver of the Swamiji's car for a very long period. He functioned as the driver of the Swamiji for five decades.

Now the big question is what is here antique or who is antique?Driver or Swamijies car?Only a simple man who doesnt care for present new worldly things can teach people to devote more to God and also live simple.Just like Gandhiji .He never wore big suits ,or wanted big cars. Not that he couldnt afford.Same our Pope too lives simple ,travels also with bus which makes people to look twicemany times. He has ordereed Priests too to live simple .Such people are more admired than very costly suits.
