Udupi: Lecturer resists Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, files police complaint

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jan 25: The students of Rukmini Shedthi Memorial First Grade College at Barkur near here celebrated Swami Vivekananda Jayanti as Youth Day. A lady lecturer of the college however vehemently opposed the celebration.

The students, overlooking her opposition, celebrated Youth Day. The lecturer made the students stand outside the class room after the programme. She also sought leave applications from the students who took part in the programme.

The history lecturer of the college had delivered a speech about Vivekananda at the programme. After the programme, the lady lecturer blocked his entry into the class too. Thereafter the history lecturer filed a complaint against the said lecturer with the principal.

After three days, the lady lecturer filed a police complaint against the history lecturer. She also approached the Women's Commission claiming that she was subjected to mental and physical harassment. Her complaint also named the college principal, deputy principal and librarian who had taken part in the said programme.

I think we in India spend too much time and resources on studying past heroes and our past glory. Come on students, we have a mountain of issues to solve in present day India. Leave all this crap for oldies and politicians and you get on to work.

Enough of Distorted History. !!Teach about the REAL HEROES of our contry, who made us Proud !! This " Lady Lecturer" might have some seperate issues. Deal with her on that matter. As to Swami Vivekananda ifsomeone has an Axe to Grind, then he/ she must not be in their senses !!

Cant we keep all these religious festivals and attires away from government educational institutions as its run on tax payers money. If these types of jayanthis, hijab etc needs to be practiced let it be in private schools and colleges. We are turning the new generation into fanatics and destroying India .

Vivekananda jayanti cannot be termed as a religious festival. Swami Vivekananda was an intellectual, a philosopher and reformer who stood for tolerance and universal brotherhood long back in the 19th century. Even the British patronized and permitted him to travel to Chicago (USA) in 1893 to deliver lecture during the international conference on religions.

We have more jayanti's, festivals in India, better stop all these things and concentrated on the actual business. Especially school / colleges should not allow any kind of religion, caste, creed, festivals this and that.
