Mangaluru: Protest march over exclusion of Narayana Guru tableau from R-Day parade kicks off

Mangaluru, Jan 26: Brahmashree Narayana Guru Swabhimana Nadige Samithi kicked off a procession ‘Swabhimana Nadige’ from Garodi temple to Kudroli temple on Wednesday January 26, condemning the exclusion of Brahmashree Narayana Guru tableau in the Republic Day parade.

The procession began from Garodi temple and will go through Pumpwell-Nanthoor-Kulshekar-Baiturli-Neermarga-Vamanjoor-Gurupura-Kaikamba-Sunkadakatte-Bajpe-Kavoor-Kulur-Panamboor-Surathkal-Kulai-Nanthoor-Collectors Gate-Jyothi-Hampankatta-KS Rao Road-PVS-MG Road-Urwa store.

From Urwa store, a foot march will held till Kudroli temple.

District Congress president Harish Kumar said, “The followers of Narayana Guru are deeply hurt by the exclusion of Narayana Guru tableau. This is a humiliation as well. Processions from other parts of the district will join and show their solidarity. This is not a political procession. No political flags will be shown. Supporters are wearing yellow shawl and holding flags.”

The followers were seen wearing yellow shawls and flags. Prior to procession, pooja was offered in Garodi temple.

Former MLC Ivan D’Souza, former MLAs J R Lobo and Mohiuddin Bava, Congress leaders Praveen Chandra Alva, Shashidhar Hegde, Vishwas Das, T K Sudhir, Abdul Rauf, Prathibha Kulai, Naveen D’Souza and others are taking part in the procession.

    Just wait for 2 more Republic Day celebrations. In 2025 India will show-case a true Republic Day Tableau parade which is secular under the leadership of most abled Shri Rahul Gandiji. Just 2 years! The whole world will be awestruck at Rahul's approach in showcasing how secular and tolerant India is.

    The Republic Day had other grand spectacles. The display of our armed forces, airforces was overwhelming. Nobody even noticed the Tableau. It just passed by. It was only after I read this article did I realise that something was 'excluded' . Guys its not an issue at all. Being a Billava , I am least bothered. I dont understand why these people are so adamant and end up making a laughing stock of themselves.

    Our city mangalore is not developing due to such reasons. I have recently visited most of the places in Karnataka. Even smaller cities than mangalore are overtaking in terms of developments and most of the people here are still busy reading history books.

    A protest? Seriously? Congress has not learnt any lesson in spite of people leaving the party over the last few years. The average congress worker is not sure who the leader is. The family run business is taking its toll. Each state must have an elected president. Elections have not taken place is decades and all posts are filled by the family selection process. Its time the party starts electing its reps from the bottom upwards.

    Dear Sompa Salli, Don't comment for the sake of it..... The UP tableau is about Kashi Viswanath Temple, Gujarat tableau is about tribal warrior Motilal Tejawat...... Does these tableaus represent the culture of the entire state and all the people of the state..... The problem with Mangaloreans as I stated earlier is that they are communalised to the extent that they view things through their communally tinted spectacles and identify every individual with their Religion / Caste / Community etc.... For Keralites, Narayana Guru is a reformist held in high esteem by people of all religions / communities for his egalitarian philosophies during a time when Kerala was suffering from the feudal and caste system perpetrated by the upper caste..... For us, he is not just a Ezhava Guru..... much more than that...... BJP played because it is a opposition state, we gave them back the dose of their own medicine.....     Dear Naresh I know exactly what I am saying. I also belong to same community. As you rightly said we look in our own angle and apply it for the entire episode as a whole. Above was my opinion which you labelled with your view. However about other states representing the tableau yes its belongs to state. Representing Krishna temple, Attoor Chruch etc., or any famous places of Karnataka no matter which religion it belongs is fine. Koti Chennaya, Yakshagana, Kambala this also makes sense. Why a personality other than Udupi Mangalore people no one knows. Hope you understand what I am trying to say.

    It would have been a good platform to launch some new young dynamic leaders , to lead the protest. With these ousted and outdated leaders, I dont think it would hold any weight. The question on how Congress leaders have suddenly overnight become the followers of Shri Narayana Guru is also a question mark.
