Udupi Jan, 29: "There are bad remarks on the RTA department right from the Vidhana Soudha to Udupi. There were many complaints received from the public regarding corruption and bribes (commission agents). I would try to make it a people-friendly department and transparent in service," assured district RTO J P Gangadhar on Saturday, January 29.
He was speaking at the monthly interaction programme held at press club in Brahmagiri here on that, A total Rs 1,28,77,19,991 royalty amount was collected by RTA in the financial year 2020-21 and Rs 93,55, 79,604 royalty was collected by the end of December 2021, a total amount of Rs 12,14,34,361 was collected in January till 27, 2022.
As many as 2,138 vehicles were examined, 266 cases were booked and 50 vehicles were confiscated by the transport authority. It has collected tax amount Rs 13,97,686, fine Rs 13,21,000 and a total of Rs 27, 18, 686 was accumulated by the RTA.
Automated Driving track to Udupi soon
An automated vehicle driving test track like Mysuru will come up in Alevoor in 5 acres of land. It is a fully-automated track where there is no manual intervention at any stage and driving licences will be issued in an automated process.
No smart card, only paper sheet RC
Since November 2021, the government has cancelled issuing smart cards in order to stop the smart card mafia. Due to poor internet connection and electricity, applicants would keep waiting in the queue. It is developed as mafia then in RTA. Hence, the card system was cancelled.
170 buses surrendered their permits after Covid, just because of financial issues. Around 329 vehicles are surrendered their permits.
Shortage of staffs at RTA
There is a shortage of office staffs at the transport office. About 14 staffs are in the office instead of 36. There are just four motor vehicle inspectors in the RTA, out of which one will be deputed to Chikkamagaluru for duty. The department is striving hard to provide service to the people without taking much time amidst staff shortage.
Gangadhar asked the parents to refrain giving vehicles to their underaged children. “The parents should not give vehicles to their children who are under aged. The schools should not allow students to bring vehicles inside the campus. It may cost them their life," he said.
