New Delhi, Feb 3 (IANS): Only 5,78,248 consumer cases out of the total 55,06,736 filed since inception at various Consumer Commissions across India are pending, taking the rate of disposal to as high as 89.50 per cent, the Lok Sabha was informed.

This was informed by the Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Ashwini Kumar Choubey in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

Giving details about the status of Consumer Cases filed in Consumer Commissions across the Country since inception, Choubey said, as many as 1,39,774 cases were filed at the National Commission since inception while 17,455 were disposed of since inception leaving a pendency of 22,319, which would mean a high disposal rate of 84.03 per cent.

Similarly, at the state Commissions, 8,82,857 cases were filed since the inception, of which 7,66,376 were disposed of while 1,16,481 were pending (86.81 per cent disposal rate). At the district Commissions, total cases filed were 44,84,105; disposed off since inception was 40,44,657 and pending was 4,39,448 (90.20 per cent disposal rate).

In all, the country as a whole had 55,06,736 cases filed since inception with 49,28,488 cases disposed of, leaving 5,78,248 pending (89.50 per cent disposal rate), the Lok Sabha was informed.
