Kundapur, Feb 3: Muslim girl students of government college who arrived to the institute wearing Hijabs were stopped at the gate by the principal and denied entry into the campus on Thursday February 3.

The principal asked the concerned students not to attend classes with Hijab. He asked the students to remove the Hijab and attend classes.

An argument ensued between the principal and the Muslim girl students near the gate of the college. The students argued that in the government order there is no mention of Kundapur government college. Principal said that the circular issued by the government applies throughout the state.

Meanwhile, Hindu students did not wear saffron shawl as they did on Wednesday. Hundreds of Hindu students wore saffron shawl while attending college on Wednesday.

Nanna prakara Hijab dharisalu bidabeku. Aagale adara olage iruva mukha noduva thavaka, aase huttuvudu. Yenu heltiri? Hudugarige illadidre boring alva? On a serious note, instead of focusing on exams & studies, why are these girls involved in these acts? Don’t understand.

I say this being a teacher myself. There is a reason why a uniform is prescribed for students - not to make any distinction based on religion, caste, social status, political affiliation etc. Instead of focusing on studies, these kids are protesting for useless things and people here are commenting on atrocities, fundamental rights etc. Have bit of common sense, these type of protests just divides the society at school level

I am from udupi area basically. For so many years I have seen colleges and schools there never had any problem, in fact many people from different religions used to attend classes in uniform. But suddenly why students want to wear the hijab? This is tells that society in india is getting obliterated by religious fundamentalism....

Very true, Vijay Benedict. In the 80s and early 90s, when we were growing up, muslim girls didnt wear any hijab or burkha. Even among older women, not many wore burkha. But from mid 90s, as the middle eastern wahabi influence grew, the dress habits of muslim girls and women slowly began to change to more conservatist styles. Well, their lives, their choice. I only hope it doesn't affect their education, and therefore the oppurtunity to broaden their minds and rational thought.

This is the reason we need uniform civil code. Most other faiths and religious believers have been abiding the law with one marriage etc which took the community further despite having some other issues to address like any other community. Sticking to stone age rules meant for a village in desert in this age is plain repressiveness of the highest order.

This is so sad Both sides are being stubborn and egoistic. Somebody has to blink. It is matter of education after all. Ideal would be to allow hijab which is the same color as uniform. Narrow minds and egos can be demolished through education only. So let education of these girls continue unhindered

BJP/RSS political/communal motives exposed conveniently ! I do not this such discipline is practiced in any educational institutions in the country, especially in North India. Why Sikhs are not subjected to such dress code. I hope hijab issue will turn in favour of these students because our constitution cannot treat different or liberal rules as per their will & wish. Sikhs are not the ones to tolerate if they are interfered in their religious belief and activities. This matter may reach upto International Human rights Court. BJP is making headway towards self destruction.

Yes, I agree with the dress code inside the classroom. But like Hijabs, kesari colour shawls not allowed in educationalinstitute. Why this rules in Colleges only. First it should be applied in Parliament house also. All Parliament members must wear decent dress inside the session house. There speaker should not allow to wear different colors shawls, and Peta on head. Then only one get justice, that what I believe.

Very pity. Now school and colleges are become political vendetta. I studied at Matt college, where all caste and creed treated as one. We had compulsory uniform weekly three days, and every one obliged to the discipline. This issue has to amicably solved among religious leaders and school authority.
