Kundapur, Feb 7: Students of Venkataramana College here went in a procession duly wearing saffron shawls on Monday February 7. When the procession was moving towards the college premises, the principal stopped it in the college grounds.

The principal and Kundapur police sub-inspector, Sadashiv Gavaroji, who blocked further movement of the students, told them that those wearing saffron shawls cannot be allowed into the college. The student engaged in an argument with the principal. They told him that students wearing scarves and burqas also should not be allowed into the college premises. They insisted that if they see students wearing burqas or hIjabs coming to the college, they will enter the college with saffron shawls over their shoulders.

After the principal confirmed that he will not allow burqas and hijabs inside the college, the students attended the classes, duly removing their saffron shawls.

Meanwhile, the principal of government PU college here held discussion with Muslim girl students who came to the college wearing hijab. The principal conveyed the orders of the government to the hijab-donned students. The girl students urged on wearing hijab inside the classrooms. The principal took the agitating Muslim students to separate room. Arrangement is made for the Muslim girl students with hijabs to sit separately. Last week, the girl students sat outside the gate of the college and protested.

Princess Sara or any Bollywood actresses are not the role models for the Muslim women. True muslim women will follow, what needs to be followed as per the religion. If some royal members or celebrities do not follow, it's their own wish and there is no compulsion.

Princess Sara wife of Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia MBS, does not always wear a hijab, so I do not think it is compulsory, also in many schools in North India hijab is not worn. Why the controversy here. 30-40 years back even in the costal districts you could hardly find anyone wearing hijab at school, why this sudden change.

@ Monty Dotor, "Princess Sara wife of Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia MBS" does not walk in the streets or go to college or in a public bus. If some woman or girl wants her body to be covered and her if she wears a shawl over head what is wrong in it? Please go to North India. Most of the women cover their heads with shawls irrespective of Hindu or Muslim. Even Punjabi, Rajasthani women cover their heads with shawls. Older women even cover their face with the 'pallu' and hold the 'pallu' between their teeth.

Real ignominy to the region. The students should adhere to the rules of the educational institution. The teacher should be able to see the face of the student and know if it's the right student in class.
