Udupi: Hijab-saffron shawl row now erupts in MGM College

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Feb 7: The controversy of wearing Hijab in college premises has spread to one more college in the city. Hindu students of MGM College in Manipal demanded that the Muslim girl students remove their Hijab on Monday February 7.

Hindu students of the college have warned that they will wear saffron shawls to college if the Muslim girl students wear Hijab. The Hindu students are quoting the recent rule passed by the state government not to wear Hijab inside school and college premises.

Principal of the college held meeting with students of both groups and asked the Muslim girl students to remove their Hijab while entering classroom from February 8.

Hindu students have warned that they will wear saffron shawl, dhoti and Rudraksh beads if Muslim girl students will not remove their Hijab. Hindu Jagarana Vedike who already organized the students, warned through the students to stop wearing of Hijab inside college premises.

These students are being provoked by vested interests outside. They follow like sheep without knowing the consequences. Their future is at stake if they have such misplaced priorities. It will be too late to repent later.

As per the best of my knowledge, Hinduism gave us freedom to practise good things. We (Hindus) are not 'forced' to wear a particular dress by religious rules. Here I have to say nothing about Hijab or it's related community. I ask Hindu students please be quiet. You cannot play 'tit for tat' everywhere. Who told you to wear Safron shawl and dhothi to be a Hindu?

Soon Name of the college will also change. All these situation created and Instigated by political parties. Students will never dare to do such act without the support of these so called organisations. Those days are gone were respecting every religion and culture. Earlier we used fight for different cause as a one group called only STUDENTS in respective of religion, caste, creed.

If court bans hijab it should also ban bindi, mangalsutra, stinking wrist threads, toe rings and Rakhi. All the statues placed inside the school or college campus for worship should be removed immediately.
