Mangaluru, Feb 7: As many as 528 Modus Operandi Bureau (MOB) cards were closed within the Mangaluru city police commissionerate in ‘Sudharana Sabha’ programme held at School of Social work Roshni Nilaya on Monday February 7.

Chief district and sessions judge of Dakshina Kannada, B Murlidhar Pai said, “Every accused has a future if they decide to transform themselves and come to the mainstream. This is an opportunity given to transform. As many as 528 MOB cards have been closed and now it is time for them all to be a responsible citizen.”

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “Two months ago, 1,265 names were taken off rowdy sheeters’ list. Today, 528 MOB cards have been closed. Our officers have worked hard for three months for the closure of MOB. We have taken off MOB cards of those offenders who have stayed away from MOB activity for several years and are displaying good behaviour in the society. Opportunity was given to the offenders to transform themselves, which they did. As many as 37 persons have not committed any offence for 25 years, 43 since 20 years, 137 since 15 years and 184 persons since 10 years. Among these 528 persons, some are working as auto drivers, labourers, employees and drivers and some are running their own businesses.

“If family members support them, there will be no need of police or court intervention. Everyone should be in the achievers’ list, not in MOB list that will severely affect family members as well,” he said.

Barke inspector Jyothirlinga compered the event.

DCP Law and order Hariram Shankar, DCP Crime and traffic Dinesh Kumar, Dr Jennis Mary, vice principal, Roshni Nilaya were present.
