Udupi: Now, chaos erupts at Milagres college as instructions on Hijab create confusion

Updated

Udupi, Feb 18: The controversy over wearing Hijab in educational institutions spread to Milagres College, Kallianpur here on Friday February 18 with scores of students crowding at the college gate following confusion over the interim order regarding the headscarf.

Muslim students, both girls and boys, were seen standing outside the college gate. Some of them were PU students and others pursuing undergraduation.

Muslim girls arrived at the college donning burqa and Hijab. Some of them proceeded to the ladies' room where they were allowed to wear Hijab.

Strict police security has been deployed at the premises.

Exams are going on in the college, sources said.

One of the students told the media that the college has been denying entry to girls wearing Hijab for the past three days.

However, other Muslims students said that while the college allowed Hijab and burqa inside the campus, they were asked to remove them inside the classroom.

A few students claimed that it was a false rumour that the college had denied entry to Hijab wearing girls.

"We never wore Hijab in classroom, but we have always been given permission to wear Hijab inside the campus. We are sitting in the ladies' room. The confusion has been created due to the court order," said a student.

Some of the Muslim girls continued to stand at the gate, and they were supported by Muslim boys as well.

The larger bench of the high court last week passed an interim order prohibiting students from wearing religious attire to schools and colleges, and since then, collegs across the state have sent home students wearing Hijabs. The Karnataka government too has stated that Hijabs will not be allowed in schools and colleges, including minority institutions, till the court pronounces final verdict, however, some of the ministers like Dr Ashwath Narayan have said that there is no such restriction on degree students.

Readers, these students have scant respect for the judiciary.. They are deliberately violating the guidelines of the High Court of Karnataka.. Tragic to observe that they consider their faith to be above our nation !!!!

Instead of making mountain out of a mole , My humble request to this institution is to allow students to wear Hijab, As long as they wear decent clothing no body should have any problem.we being Christians respect each others religions. Having holier than thou attitude does not help. I come across people of all different countries with unique clothing and traditions , what makes me happy is to see a smile. No religion in the world says to hate each other .

As per above proof of pictures, most of them wear burka instead of hijab and enter into class/college, but they are claiming everywhere that they wear only hijab and entry denied. What they want to prove themselves?

Full of politics and power. West is already facing difficulties in dealing with this issues. Now India started with a shawl where these people are waiting for fight. Hijab is okay but if they want full head to toe covering is not okay in my view. Every one respects religion but too much is not tolerated. Limit for everything.

Ban completely in schools all religions clothing. No more discussion and confusion. This hijab and turban matters are very difficult to handle. Best is dont allow and ask students to follow uniform in schools

If something is compulsory in religion, it should be allowed, but if it is because of tradition or culture it should not be allowed, otherwise tomorrow someone will come to school/ college in a bikini . Uniform is the best option as it prevents discrimination based on religion or wealth.

Earlier there were only few PU colleges that were not allowing hijab in classroom. Because of mischief of few, the fire has now spread to other colleges which were accommodative of hijab. These colleges are now bound by court interim order and are using this as pretext to disallow hijab. Students have to respect court order to attend college or sit at home until final order is received instead of doing this daily tamasha at college gates

Why are they creating unnecessary problems in all the educational institutions. Good to read that " hijab was allowed inside campus & removed in the classroom " so follow accordingly. Also some students are saying it is false rumors that the college denied entry to them. What is happening, they are gathering outside the gate & want to highlight this thru the media but they don't know that this will affect their case in high court by giving bad impression. Seem like they are brain washed.

Follow the College rules and also, what the students were followed the dress code from beginning of academic year in the college. If there is sudden change by the students in dress code, then the management should not allow the students inside the school compound.
