Udupi, Feb 19: In connection with the incident in which two persons had forced themselves into a house in Shivalli Manipal on Friday February 18 evening and stabbed a woman, some more details have emerged.

As per a complaint lodged in this regard, a person named Sudarshan (27), a resident of Shivalli was moving towards the ground from his rented house when he saw two persons with a big trolley bag in hand walking towards the residence of Ramanth Rai, the victim's husband. He was speaking on the phone and saw that Ramanath returned to his house by his auto rickshaw but even after repeated knocking, his wife did not open the door. Some sound was heard from inside.

Ramanath then called out to the people nearby at which several went there running. Rai told them that he was hearing sounds from inside but his wife was not opening the door.

When they knocked at the door, two people came out and went away by pushing aside the people gathered there. They saw that Ramanath's wife, Sumathi, had been stuffed into a trolley bag. She was removed from the bag but she was in a semi conscious state. She was made to lie down on the auto rickshaw of her husband. The two aggressors were by then caught hold of by the others outside.

It later transpired that one of the attackers was Mithun from Bengaluru, a nephew of Sumathi, and the other was his friend, Nagesh. It is suspected that the two wanted to murder Sumathi by smothering her and transport her body in the bag becauses of some pre-existing enmity.

Manipal police have registered a case under section 307 of Indian Penal Code. Investigation is on.
