Bengaluru, Mar 5: Both Karnataka and the Centre are making all efforts to bring home the mortal remains of Naveen, the medical student from Haveri district in the State, who died in the shelling during the Russian bomb attack against Ukraine recently, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said in Bengaluru on Saturday.

Speaking to media persons, he said: “Many Kannadigas have been evacuated from Ukraine. Some of the students are stranded in the war zones of Kharkiv and Kiev. Indian Embassy officials too are trying to reach out to them. The officials have assured us about contacting them immediately when the war recedes. I spoke to the Union External Affairs minister and the Ukraine Embassy too on Friday.’’

“We are hopeful that all our efforts will bear fruit soon,’’ he said.

The Chief Minister said that he would participate in the Jaljeevan Mission Conference of Southern States to be chaired by the Union Water Resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Bengaluru before heading to Shikaripur to participate in the farmers' convention later in the day.

“I will also visit Naveen's residence in Ranebennur to console the family members. Government has decided to present a solatium for the family," Bommai said.

State Water Resources Minister Govind M Karjol, Higher Education Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan and other senior officials were present.
