Udupi, Apr 13: The dead body of contractor Santhosh Patil who had accused rural development and panchayat raj minister K S Eshwarappa of corruption and killed himself in a private lodge here was handed over by police personnel to his family at Manipal hospital's Forensic Medicine department.
The body will be carried in an air conditioned ambulance to Belagavi and is likely to reach Hindalaga at about 4 AM. The family of Santhosh Patil will travel with the body.

Santhosh Patil’s brother Prashanth Patil said that the body is being carried on the directions of senior police officials who have assured of arresting the accused after investigations soon.
“It will take eight hours to reach Hindalga and we will be reaching there at 6 AM. Further decisions will be taken after reaching there,” he said.

Udupi: Officials convince late Santhosh Patil’s family for post-mortem

Udupi, Apr 13: The family members of late Santhosh Patil have agreed to take the mortal remains for post-mortem after persuasion by the officials. The post-mortem centre is near Manipal hospital. The procedure being conducted after 40 hours of death has begun.
The body of the deceased was brought under tight police security from Shambhavi Lodge here to Manipal. The family members of Patil have reached the centre.
Though the officials have convinced the brother of Santhosh, he is in grief. The items in the lodge and the car have been examined. “Decision of shifting the body to Belgaum after the post-mortem will be taken after discussing with the department,” said DSP Vishnuvaradhan to the reporters.

Udupi, Apr 13: The inquest into the death of Santhosh K Patil was completed on Wednesday April 13. His family members left Shambhavi Lodge, refused to accept his mortal remains until the three accused men are not arrested.
An FIR has been filed against Rural Development & Panchayat Raj (RDPR) minister K S Eshwarappa in Udupi in connection to the Santhosh K Patil death case. Eshwarappa has been named as the first accused in the case. Prashanth Patil, brother of Santhosh Patil had visited the spot on Tuesday late night. After visiting the hotel room, he filed a complaint and named minister Eshwarappa, Ramesh and Basavaraj, PA to the minister as accused.
“Further process of my brother’s mortal remains will be conducted after the arrest of K S Eshwarappa, Basavaraj and Ramesh. We have cooperated with the police investigation so far. The accused should be arrested before the post-mortem of the body is conducted. We will not allow shifting of the body to Manipal. We have already informed our opinion to chief minister Basavaraj Bommai. We are fighting for justice. We have taken the decision for the peace of Santhosh’s soul,” stated Prashanth Patil.
It may be recalled, Patil, a contractor and BJP leader from Belagavi district of Karnataka alleged that minister Eshwarappa had demanded 40 per cent commission for his work through his aide. Patil ended his life after consuming poison at a lodge in Udupi, it is said.
Patil had reportedly written letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union home minister Amit Shah and Union Minister for Panchayat Raj Giriraj Singh accusing Eshwarappa of demanding 40 per cent cut from him.
