Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru led the evening ceremony in Our Lady Rosary Cathedral, Rosario on April 15.

People participated in great numbers to take part in the passion of the Lord and adore the Holy Cross.

Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha shared his reflections on the Holy Cross. He said, "We, Christians celebrate the death of our Lord Jesus, for we are redeemed by it. Jesus has saved us from the sin and death by shedding his body and blood on the Cross. The death of Jesus has offered us new life with Him in heaven."

As part of the liturgy, there was no celebration of Holy Mass. Bishop prayed the solemn intercessions. The adoration of the Holy Cross was held and faithful paid due respect and reverence to the Holy Cross.

A meaningful reflection on the Holy Cross was delivered by Fr Victor D'Souza, principal, Rosario PU College in city.

He said, "There is no Christianity without Cross and there is no Cross without Christ. Cross is the identity of all Christians. It is the symbol of great love and sacrifice of our Lord Jesus."

The solemn ceremony of lowering the body of Jesus from the Holy Cross was held with great devotion and reverence. Faithful took part in the procession of the relic of body of Jesus.

Fr Alfred J Pinto, rector of the cathedral, Fr Vinod Lobo, assistant parish priest, Fr Anil Fernandes, director, Canara Communication Centre were present.

Earlier in the day, thousands of devotees flocked to their respective churches early in the morning to participate in the Good Friday service which started with Way of the Cross.

Blessed day for the Nations, what a sacrifice! that to for whom? Everything accomplished as it is Written in the Scrolls and Scriptures and exactly as Jesus foretold three times about his passion death and Resurrection. Lord's death & Resurrection was something beyond human perception for it was never heard of or again never seen. Apostles are the Witnesses and who wrote the Gospels. 1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, Often one may say lie out of fear to save life from persecution but who says truth even knowing that truth leads torturous death? but disciples accepted the truth and death too for Eternal Life in Christ. 1 Cor 15: But if Christ is preached as raised from the dead, how can some among you say there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then neither has Christ been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then empty [too] is our preaching; empty, too, your faith. Then we are also false witnesses to God, because we testified against God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, neither has Christ been raised, and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain; you are still in your sins. Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are the most pitiable people of all. 'Better to believe from whom, who was lived with Jesus & witnessed and testified rather believing blindly in whom not seen Jesus"
