Mangaluru: St Agnes College set to turn co-ed from 2022-2023

Mangaluru, Apr 18: St Agnes College, a premier and prestigious college in the city, is officially all set to welcome male students along with female students to the college for the academic year 2022-2023.

Addressing media at press club on Tuesday April 19, Sr Dr M Lydia AC, joint secretary, St Agnes Institutions and Sr Dr M Venissa AC, principal said, “St Agnes College, which has vast history of 100 years, has been imparting quality higher education to the women of south India for over a century. Thousands of empowered women who hold distinguished positions as educators, scientists, chartered accountants, and management and service professionals all over the globe are testimony to the repute of the college.

“In a time where the world is moving forward and attempting to break barriers of all kinds including gender, St Agnes College too is bracing ahead with new programs on offer for the new age.

“Being an autonomous institution, the college enjoys the privilege of running various professional courses, promoting research along with the other regular programmes, adopts suitable innovative methods of teaching, learning and evaluation. The co-curricular, extra-curricular and skill oriented programmes enable and keep the students alert to the contemporary needs of the society and demands of the job market.

“Being a standard bearer of repute in the field of education, St Agnes College, as part of its post centenary venture, wishes to extend its legacy of a century to male students, at the undergraduate level.

“Through value based, socially relevant and globally competitive education the college envisions to transform the students into intellectuals displaying personal integrity and social responsibility.

“Having obtained required permissions from the management, Mangalore University and government of Karnataka, the college is now officially all set to welcome male students along with female students to the college for the academic year 2022-2023. Many parents were in favour of starting co-ed. The strength will be retained, we will have 20% to 30% boys admission in the beginning eventually we will look into it and increase,” they said.

Shubarekha, dean administration, Dr Devi Prabha Alva, associate professor, and Kripa Maria Rasquinha, student representative were present.
