Will Mangalore be a Clean City After Three Awareness Progs in A Month?

Will Mangalore be a Clean City After Three Awareness Programmes in A Month?

Daijiworld Media Network—Mangalore (PS/CN)

Mangalore, Feb 26: There is a reason behind this optimistic question. There were in all three clean city awareness programmes in the city in February. If those who were present at these programmes join hands, the city will shine. All the awareness programmes stressed the ‘clean city’ theme. A good number of people participated in these events which also leads to the above question.

Sri Ravishankar Stresses Need for Clean City:

Founder of Art of Living Sri Ravishankar brought up a plan for a cleaner Mangalore. At the ‘Mangala Sandhya’ programme held at Mangala stadium he had launched ‘Swachcha Mangalore’ (Clean Mangalore) programme and had  called upon his large number of followers in this coastal city to dedicate at least a couple of hours.

DC’s Interest:

With a similar purpose, under the guidance of DC Subodh Yadav, the district administration had organized a half marathon to promote a clean, green, progressive Mangalore. Indian track queens P T Usha, Vandana Rao, and Reeth Abraham lent their charm and vivacity to this maiden event sponsored by Vijaya Bank.

Prophets Sweep for a Cause:

Another event that occurred was initiated by Talent Research Foundation members who went about cleaning the vicinity of service bus stand near State Bank on February 6 and 13 as part of the drive. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) gave the message on cleanliness and the theme was highlighted through banners on the occasion. TRF had earlier held a similar cleanliness drive at the old bus stand area of the city. They poured water on the road, threw bleaching powder and cleaned the city with their best effort.

If those who raised their voice to shout clean city slogans in these three awareness programmes join hands, then Mangalore will definitely be a clean city.

Dear Mangaloreans,It is a good start. Please continue the good work
to show the world that we are clean Mangaloreans.Govt & Civic Authorities should punish those who are littering in the city,as U may be aware that in Abu Dhabi there is a fine of Dhirams 500/- equivalent to Rs.6000/-if any one is found littering. In Mangalore I have seen tender coconutes have been thrown in front of the shops after drinking the water. There is a small lane proceeding to St.Aloysius college through Balmata road, where U can notice heep of plastic papers have thrown & not cleared by City corporation for years. It gives a very bad impression in the minds of Tourists.

Wonder how how many of these good samaritans, have actually tried cleaning their own homes.? ISMAIL K PERINJE, PERINJE/YANBU-KSA, thoughts are right, when he says

"Is this cleaning drive only for photo function."

City cleaning should be the responsibility of the municipality. They should be taken to task for not doing their job properly. Citizens should be fined, if found throwing garbage/thrash in public places, roads etc, like it is being done in KSA of late, to control the mencace of citizens throwing thrash in public places.

In my opinion Mangalore, Muncipality can afford to get professional cleaning equipment to keep the city clean. Its a bad site to see so many young men wasting their precious time, at a work, which could be done by one man with proper equipment. These young men, who have taken the task of cleaning the city themselves, should, direct/check/advise the muncipality to start cleaning Mangalore in a professional manner.

The biggest problem is the issue of sanitation. No city (and Mangalore included) in India comes close to providing good sanitation - every place is an open toilet... Even religious places are not tolerated. The only solution along with education/advertisements etc) is to provide many *paid* toilets all around the city. It should be 24-hour manned, absolutely clean with no blemishes, and charged for use. Even if there is initial resistance, I am sure people will finally prefer this after all, everyone still has shame!! I think if is done well, some private company can also money out of this...

Cleanliness should be taught to each and everyone from their childhood days .   People are busy burning garbage and plastics. Plastic use is in vast quantity . I think it is high time for all the people in this country to think about cleanliness. If we walk on the beach, the river side etc we find waste being dumped . People are busy destroying nature and i am sure we will have to pay a price one day .Mumbai floods is one of the example. Nothing good is kept for the future. Let awareness on cleanliness begin from home and continue in school . I am sure there will be a lot of change ...

Indeed city will not be cleaned unless the citizens observe and maintain the cleanliness for that the council got to put banners reminding everyone about their duty and providing bins so they can put their rubbish may even help just by saying they will be penalized if they don't obey just as Singapore and few other countries initially to get the message then sure Mangalore can be a clean city

I am living this city last 38 year. one thing we must understand that above step is really good.
but we have to take permanet solutiion.
    1. Govt. have to release some more fund. for to make more public toilet in Mangalore city.
    2. Near Nehru Maidan many beggars staying there and some illegal work going on. Police should take strong action.
    3. Near Wenlock Hospital all street vendor should be banned. people are walk on the main road because of street vendor whole footpath miss using by the vendor.
    4. all the poster and banner should be banned.
instead of banners main Hampankatta signal use digital tv in that govt. have show accident display & photo. so people will use vehicle carefully.
Many times when i am pass near Jyothi and Hampankatta I vacate the some beggar. and i told them go and sleep. and I gave full income of the day. but I know this is not solution. govt. have to take action. instead of giving money for temple. Atleast spend some money for beggar so they can live good life. Many govt. land miss using from gagster. In that small part give to beggar
    God will Bless U.
If Govt. is going to support me I will definitely solve the problem.

Hamid, Mangalore there is no need to blame politicians or organizations like BD/RSS in this matter. It's our citizens who should be blamed first. Most of the citizens are well educated now and it's their duty to keep our city clean. I have given some examples in my previous comments as to how some of the public react regarding cleanliness of our city. Please look into it.

Cleanliness isn't a matter of products and things cleanliness is a matter of diligence and effort by people. Keeping public places as clean as possible on an individual basis, a public willing to pay for what individuals can't keep clean or clean up, public education for what are or aren't good practices, and to help keep the public informed when and where specific problems need to be addressed. MCC, political party workers, religious groups, government workers, and unions can take great part in it. It is we the citizen can change evry thing and we can keep it clean.

Our Mangalore city cannot be clean unless we all citizens observe the cleaning attitude in our day today life. For example we had a dustbin close to our locality for past 50 years. Recently a new residential apartment came up he used connection and shifted the dustbin around 250m from the original location. The next guy who was near to that dustbin used his connection shifted another 200m. With this kind of attitude you see a cleaner Mangalore?

I agree with your comments Stany D' Souza, Mangalore. Near my house there was no dustbin before and all the waste things were thrown on the road side. Now MCC has provided a new dustbin, but still people throw waste things on the road side instead of throwing it in dustbin. There are some people who sit inside their cars and throw the waste things. Sometimes it falls into the exact place and sometimes it will fall on the road side and other people also follow the same thing. The people sitting in the car dont have the time to get out of their car and throw the waste things into the dustbin. As a result our city becomes dirty. So i feel it's the duty of every citizens to keep our city clean.

    Dear All,
Our Mangalore city cannot be clean unless we all citizens observe the cleaning attitude in our day today life. We just do this once or twice a year. In order to keep the city clean everyone must cooperate. First let us not throw the waste wherever we like. It should be thrown at proper desingnated place. Let us all the shop keepers keep dust bins in front of their shop and let passersby or customer dispose the waste in those dust bins and everyday let those dust bins be emptied at proper place. Let officials behave and work with awareness. Then everything will be work in proper way
