Udupi, May 30: The chairman of the Udupi chapter of SIRC of ICAI, Lokesh Shetty has clarified that one of the accused Molahalli Ganesh Shetty in the suicide case of Chinmayi Hospital owner Katte Bhojanna is not a chartered account by profession as reported in the sections of the media but he is working as an accountant in an institution.

Businessman Katte Bhojanna of Kundapur who committed suicide had in a death note, blamed Ganesh Shetty and Hangalur Ismail for taking the extreme step.

Addressing a press meet at the Udupi Press Club on Monday, May 30, Lokesh Shetty said some sections of the media had portrayed Ganesh Shetty as a CA.

“He is just an employee working as an accountant in an institution. This reportage has made us really upset and it was like a bad remark on our job and profession,” Lokesh Shetty said.

“The integrity of our profession has been damaged as the media has mentioned Ganesh Shetty as a CA. Only a member of ICAI is eligible to call himself a chartered accountant,” Lokesh Shetty clarified.

“In such cases media should first ascertain whether he is CA by profession officially or seek clarity from the ICAI of Udupi before publishing or telecasting in the media. There are a number of phases for an accountant to become a Chartered Accountant officially. Hence, there is a difference between CA and an accountant,” Lokesh Shetty told reporters

Gujjady Prabhakar Nayak, vice president, Mahendra Shenoy, Archana Mayya and Ranganath Achar were present.
