Mangaluru, Jun 1: The Dakshina Kannada district Red Cross held elections for the managing committee for the term of 2022-2025 on Sunday, May 29. As per the results announced on Monday, the faction of Dr Sachidananda Rai has completely won the elections.
Ten candidates including CA Shantaram Shetty were in the fray. Dr Sachidananda Rai, Sumana B, Dr Sathish Rao, journalist P B Hariprasad Rai, Lion Mohan Shetty K, Gurudat M Nayak, Pushparaj Jain, principal Vittal Abura and Yathish Baikampady are elected.
The district Indian Red Cross executive committee held elections for ten council members for three years. Out of 2,800 members of the Red Cross, 953 members had exercised their franchise. Seventeen candidates stood for elections for the membership of 10.
The International Red Cross was established through 1864 Geneva Convention on the basis of seven principles of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, unity and universality. The Indian Red Cross was established on June 7, 2020 when 50 members were appointed. It has a network of 700 branches in India at present.
Indian Red Cross society Dakshina Kannada has been giving far sighted results and is occupied in service by creative programmes. It has conducted community activities such as blood donation, health check-up, training people to face emergency situations, necessities of ordinary people etc. It has played an important role during epidemic situations.
