Udupi, Jun 1: As a part of Brahmakalashotsava of Sri Mahishamardini temple Kadiyali Brahmakalashotsava, a green horekanike was offered by the villagers and devotees from different parts of the districton Wednesday, June 1.
Sri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Kaniyoor math and Nadoja Dr G Shankar of G Shankar Family Trust flagged off the procession.
Before that, kaniyoor Swamiji performed a pooja to the silver doors of the temple and the Swarna (golden) Kalasha, carried out in a procession by a beautifully decorated vehicle.
Thousands of devotees participated in the horekanike shobha yathre.
The procession commenced from Jodukatte and passed through the main roads of city.
Traditional Chande, kombu kahale, tableaux, tiger dance, drums, Nasik band , keelu kudure, taleaux and other cultural teams accompanied the procession.
A large amount of horekanike was offered by the devotees including groceries, rice bags, oil packets, coconuts, tender coconuts, bananas, sugar, jaggery, vegetables. These items will be used for 10 days of community meals during the Brahmakalasha event.
People thronged both the sides of the road to see the grand shobha yatra.
Dr Katte Raviraj Acharya, president, Kadiyali temple management board, Nagesh Hegde, president, renovation committee of the temple, Purushottam P Shetty, president, Brahmakalashotsava committee, K Nityananda Kamath, general secretary, Raghavendra Kini, general secretary, renovation committee, Yashpal A Suvarna, president, Undivided Dakshina Kannada Fish Marketing Federation, leaders like Jayakar Shetty Indrali, director, Karnataka state Cooperative federation, Bengaluru, Shyamala Kundar, member, National Commission for Women, Gurme Suresh Shetty, businessman and others were present.
