M'lore: Rayaratha - Magic of Vijayanagara Era Recreated in City

Mangalore, Mar 6: ‘Rayaratha’, the light and sound show recreating the magic of Vijayanagara era received a grand opening with district in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar doing the honours at Nehru Maidan here on Saturday March 5. The show is on with curious visitors pouring in on Sunday March 6 as well.

The programme has in the true sense introduced to the proud Kannadigas the grandeur of the Vijayanagara rule and the biography of Krishnadevaraya to the new generation and has been befitting for the state is celebrating the 500th anniversary of Krishnadevaraya’s coronation. 

An hour-long show covered aspects of Vijayagara Empire such as birth, coronation, marriage, friendship with the British, stone chariot, Ugra Narasimha idol, Vittala temple, Hampi Bazaar, Anjaneya Hill, Akka-Thangi boulder among others through light and sound. Though these were replicas of the old grandeur nevertheless attractive and showcased the efforts of the organizers to pass on the historical milestone to the generation next. 

Mangalore MLA U T Khader, commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh and deputy commissioner Subodh Yadav were present.

M K Mutt is the director of the show. Entry for the programme will be free. This is one among such shows being arranged by the State tourism department in total 20 district headquarters of the state, in association with the respective district administrations.

    I think most of kids of std 7th and 10th std missed the great occasion as the kids are preparing for their exams. This would have been more useful if organised during the month of April- May.
