Mangalore, Mar 8: Women’s Cell and Women’s Studies Centre of St Agnes College here in the city organized a daylong workshop on ‘Celebrating the past, planning the future’ to commemorate the international women’s day at College Auditorium on Tuesday March 8.
Dr Sr Marie Prem D’Souza, principal, presided.
Speaking on the occasion she said that all the barriers that are restraining women from acquiring their rights should be removed. The women day celebration gives a new ray of hope, she added.
Dr Rohini Katoch, assistant superintendent of police, Puttur was the chief guest. A Hindi Play on Women and Women’s Issues was staged.
Agneita Aiman, staff co-ordinator, women’s cell and Student secretaries of Women’s Cell Julia Angelina, Michelle Alvares among others were present.
Celebration at Roshni Nilaya
School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore organized an awareness programme through exhibition on the issues related to adolescent girls. The programme sparked knowledge and made every girl proud of her womanhood.
A programme ‘Kanya Hrudaya’ was organized. Dr Srirangappa district health officer, DK inaugurated the programme.
He said that girls may face lot of turmoil and problems during period of transition from childhood to adulthood. They should be given proper knowledge and emotional and social support should be given to them, he added. In Dakshina Kannada the ratio of women to men is 973 per 1000 men, and that should be equal in order to strengthen our social system, he noted.

‘Stree Utsav’ at St Ann’s College of Education
As part of international women’s day celebration St Ann’s College of Education celebrated ‘Sthree Utsav’.
On the occasion a introductory CD on 30 famous women prepared by students was unveiled. Famous writer Vaidehi and IFS officer Anitha Arekal were the chief guests.
Principal Dr Sr Claire presided over the programme.
