Udupi: Ratha for Vishwa Kannada Sammelan Flagged-Off

Udupi, Mar 9: A Ratha(chariot) made for the Vishwa Kannada Sammelan to be held at Belgaum from Friday March 11 to Sunday March 13 began its journey from temple town on Wednesday March 9.
A special-chariot depicting the Tulunadu culture and traditions including the portraits of litterateurs was flagged-off from here by zilla panchayat president Katpady Shankar Poojary on Wednesday March 9.
Special puja were offered to Kannada Goddess Bhuvaneshwari at the leadership of Shivattaya during the programme held at the premises of deputy commissioner’s head quarter.
The people represented in large number presenting various traditional activities during the auspicious occasion, on the path of chariot, while the school band provided the background music in worship of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari.
The pictures of Kannada’s legendary poet Gopalakrishna Adiga, Tulunadu worship of Nagamandala and Bhootakola, planting paddy saplings, the heroic sport of buffaloes race – Kambala, great Kannada litterateur Kota Shivarama Karant, preparing mura to store rice, and so on were depicted on one side of the chariot.
The picture of Kannada Goddess Bhuvaneshwari adorns the front portion of chariot and Kannada alphabets painted on either side, besides a dome was erected on the top of chariot with facades. The special-chariot which flagged-off from DC’s office proceeded through Brahmagiri, Ajjarakad, taluk office, Diana circle and reached up to Board High School and began its onward journey to Karkala.
Town councillor Kiran Kumar, taluk panchayat president Devadas Hebbar, deputy councillor Bharati Chandrashekar, acting DC Prabhakar, zilla panchayat CEO N Rajashekar, municipal commissioner Gokuldas Nayak, taluk panchayat CEO Manjunatayya, district Kannada and culture department director R S Dalvai, district public instructions department director Dar Mahidas, youth and sports department assistant director Sitanadi Vittal Shetty, ASP Venkateshappa, DySP Jayant V Shetty, Kannada Sahitya Parishat office-bearers Bhuvendra Prasad and Dr Gananath Yekkar and others were present on the occasion. The scouts and guides of various schools as well as the general public participated in with enthusiasm.
