Belthangady: Bishop Lawrence Inaugurates Vimukti Social Work Centre

Belthangady, Mar 9: Capuchin Krishik Seva Kendra, Dayalbagh Rural Development Programme - Vimukti Social Work Centre was inaugurated and blessed by Fr Lawrence Mukkuzhy, the bishop of Belthangady diocese, here on Tuesday March 8.
Fr Vincent Furtado, the provincial minister, Holy Trinity province, Karnataka graced the occasion with his presence. The chief gusts Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, parish priest of Ujire, Harish Kumar, local Congress leader, Sumathi Bhat president, Vimukti SHG Federation and Fr Chetan Lobo, convenor of Vimukti Charitable Trust were present.
Dr Lawrence appreciated the Dayalbagh Capuchin Fathers for their valuable and selfless service to the least ones of the societies. ‘If a village smiles the whole capital Delhi will smile’ he further quoted.
To mark the occasion, Fr Chetan Lobo released a magazine named ‘A Voice of the Voiceless’ dedicated to the deprived, vulnerable and excluded children of society.
Fr Vinod Mascarenhas, director of the organization said that if attitude of men and women changes towards each other then definitely equality between them will become a reality. It should begin with inter change of profession and trade.
Harish Kumar, a local representative, commended the humane service of the Dayalbagh Capuchin Fathers. Molly Vas was facilitated by president Fr Vincent Furtado for the best social worker in the Taluka. Mamatha Rai organized the programme. Rohini proposed the vote of thanks.
The Yeoman Service of Capuchin Fathers at Dayalbagh Capuchin Krishik Seva Kendra (CKSK) is a voluntary organization run by Franciscan Capuchin Fathers of Karnataka Province, registered as a society in 1976. The CKSK works for the holistic development of the most vulnerable deprived and excluded sections of the society through total human development which has been very much realized in integrated community development.
CKSK works for the marginalize poor by intervening in their various issues and enabling them to face them with confidence and limited available resources. It intervenes with people at their different stages of human development.
Through self help group, the centre aims to enable women folk. It has enabled them to gain not only financial security but also honour and dignity. This is very much seen in the recent just concluded elections where through the constant motivation and training 50 women contested panchayat elections and 30 got elected. They also actively involved in fighting against anti farmers issues, HIV-AIDS, child harassment and work strenuously to improve their economic standard by engaging in various self-employment activities. As a result, now under the patronage of Vimukti SHG Federation there are 356 self help groups of men and women comprising of nearly 5000 families. The total and integrated human is realized through various sections such as health and sanitation, education and livelihood.
