Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Mar 10: Union minister of state for railways, K H Muniyappa, promised members of West Coast Railway Development Association, that the Bangalore-Mangalore night train would soon be extended to Karwar.

The promise came, after the topic was raised by K Venkatesh Kini, who is a member of the above association, and president of Mukambika Railway Yatri Sangh. Kini was a participant in a meeting organized at Railway Bhavan in New Delhi to fix a date for laying of the foundation stone for the proposed building of Mookambika railway station in Byndoor.

The minister was reminded that the above association had approached the court against the decision of the railways to extend the said train to Kannur instead of Karwar as demanded, and that the south western railway, southern railway, and Konkan Railway Corporation had jointly decided to divert ten compartments of the train to Karwar and the remaining to Kannur. Muniyappa’s attention was drawn to the fact that the Railway Board has not yet taken any action on this decision.

Kini said that the minister has agreed to visit Byndoor to lay foundation stone for the railway station building before March end. The delegation, which met the minister, also comprised former zilla panchayat vice-president, Raju Devadiga, and entrepreneur, S Nityanand Pai, as its members.
