Udupi, Jun 13: On the event of the birth anniversary of K KHebbar, one of the most prominent modernist artists of India, the Hebbar Gallery and Art Centre (HGAC) will be hosting a Yakshagana performance on Wednesday, June 15 at 6 pm at the Gangubai Hangal Auditorium at the Manipal Centre for Humanities.
Directed by the acclaimed Guru Sanjeev Suvarna of the Yakshagana Kendra, Udupi. This will be the first time a Yakshagana performance is staged in Hindi in Manipal. Though Yakshagana has a long history of nearly four hundred years, it continues to appeal to the community because it combines music, eye-catching costumes, dance and acting with its signature extempore dialogue in the local language.
The Yakshagana Kendra in Udupi has been a pioneering institution for the training and development of artists and the form itself. In an effort to make Yakshagana accessible to wider audiences speaking different languages that might miss out on the richness of the dialogues, they now have prasangas in other Indian languages.
Entry would be free.
