UPCL will not be Shut Down - Dr V S Acharya


Manipal, March 19 (DHNS): Higher Education Minister Dr V S Acharya said on Saturday ''there is no question'' of the Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) power plant being shut down at the present juncture when the State was facing an acute power shortage.

He was speaking to reporters after inspecting the progress of the construction work of the Deputy Commissioner’s office complex building here.

    You are right. Now there is no way to close this plant. Earlier, UPCL had assured that the harm to the environment would be nil as the company would use fly ash to make bricks. This is a gift to our future generation. People think that this is only the problem of people of Nandikur. I think, in future, even we cannot travel through the roads, surrounding the UPCL, due to this fly ash. Politician can do anything. Whoever or whatever they are, we vote them considering only their party and caste. May God protect our country and people.
