Under the RTE Act 2009 and Compulsory Education Rules 2012, the minimum age for admission to the first standard has been fixed.

During the academic year 2016-17 under the RTE Act 2009 Section 12(1)(C), the minimum age for admission to LKG had been fixed between 3 years 10 months to 4 years 10 months and for the first standard it was fixed between 5 years 10 months to 6 years 10 months.

In 2018, the government relaxed the age limit for admission to first standard and fixed it between 5 years 5 months and 7 years.

The current academic year has begun and all the schools have completed their admission process and therefore the new rules will be effective from this year, according to Dr R Vishal, Commissioner of School Education and Literacy department.

According to most of the parents, this rule should not be applicable for the kids who are already in Nursery, LKG, UKG. Because when those kids joined Nursery, LKG, UKG, the rule was to complete 5.5 years when they reach 1st std. Now suddenly if you change the rule, this will be waste of time, money, energy for the kids who are already in Nursery, LKG, UKG. In some of the schools the fee is more than a lakh for kgs. So it is better to implement this rule for the kids who are yet to join Nursery or LKG.

First of all the orders must be issued at the beginning of the academic year itself, not in between. Now Days A child got admitted to the KG section first, after 2 years will be moved to the 1st standard. According to the new rules a child has to sit 3 year in KG section for not completing 6 years... What is the point in changing the age limit for admission over the years? No a days KG section also the important part of the education system any rules must be implemented from LKG. Further students who have already admitted to LKG should be allowed to join 1st Standard even if they didn't complete 6 years.

Godwin kinnigoli, let the child have its chance to be a child.Dont force any child into this school day.6years is ok.Actuelly here children are first examined by doctor whether child is mature enough to go school, mentaly strong enough to coop with school daily stress.later school day life is very hard.In India still hard enough .dont push child with 2 years in LKG?Only after three yerars.LKG and a year in UKG is enough.

Good news for kids as they will have little more freedom before they start as students... I remember our times in 70s when we were admitted to schools by back-warding our dates of birth... It may be a bit of bother for parents as they have to devote a bit more time behind kids at home...

Sir, Parents are fine with repeating the class. It is the child only who doesn't want to leave their friends and feel depressed. My kid is 5 years old and is in UKG. 5 years is not that young age. They understand the concept that they are growing and getting promoted in the classes. He now only talks to his friends that he is going to be even more senior and going to be promoted to class 1 soon. We are feeling bad to break the news to him that they have to repeat UKG again. I am pretty sure, he will keep asking questions for months that why he is not promoted to the next class while all his friends did. This is mentally very depressing for kids only. Even his teachers asked us not to tell him that he is going to repeat right now. They will figure out some way to tell it to kids.
