Belagavi, Jun 3: The pre-monsoon rain, which continued unabated on Saturday, June 2 in areas in and around the city of Belagavi created further mayhem. One youth got washed away due to the force of pond water near NH 4.

Imran Nadaf (25), a resident of Kotabagi village of Hukkeri taluk is the unfortunate youth who got washed away.

Imran Nadaf and his brother Ameer were going to Bhootharamana Hatti from the city on the evening of Saturday, June 2. A little while later the rain started pouring and both of them took shelter below a tree in the low lying area beside the highway. During this time, rainwater on high force started to flow from Vantamuri ghat area and Imran Nadaf got washed away along with the bike. Though Ameer tried to rescue his brother Nadaf, he could not do so as the force of water flow was more. Ameer saved himself from the force of water by sitting on a tree. After some time, though the bike was found at a distance of around 500 meters, there was no sign of Imran. Police from Kakati police station and fire service personnel have visited the spot and are conducting the search for the body.

It rained heavily in Kakati, Ukkada and Sutagatti ghat areas. The water that is being flown from Vantamuri ghat has created mini waterfalls all along the national highway. Locals say that they have not seen water in this quantity flowing on the highway in recent years.

Due to the rain, the underpass at Gandhinagar in the city got filled with water and the vehicles had to stop from plying in this route.


Four die in state due to lightning strike

Shankar Doddi Vinod (30), a resident of Kanakapur taluk of Ramnagar district, Gowramma (56), a resident of Narayanapura under Vijayapura hobli of Devanahalli taluk, Shankar Singh, a resident of Emmiganuru village of Ballari and Venkanna Kona Reddy (47), a resident of Navalagund taluk of Dharwad lost their lives after lightning struck them. A cheque of Rs five lac was handed over to the family of Vinod. Venkanna Konareddy is the brother of former MLA H N Konareddy.


Labourer dies due to compound wall collapse at Bengaluru

Due to the heavy rain that poured on the night of Friday, June 1, in Bengaluru, one labourer died and three others got injured due to compound wall collapse at ITI layout near Chennammanakere. Malathesh (30), a resident of Gantalagud village in Chincholi taluk of Kalaburagi district is the unfortunate victim. Parvathi, wife of Malathesh, Sharanappa, brother of Malathesh and Shobha, wife of Sharanappa, who were trapped under the debris of the wall were rescued by locals and fire service personnel who got them admitted to Victoria hospital. They sustained injuries but are out of danger.

Crop and roads destroyed in Mandya

Due the heavy downpour at K R Pet in Mandya on Saturday, June 2, the crop that was to be harvested shortly over an area of 20 acres got completely destroyed due to the bursting of the wall of the lake at Nayakanahalli village under Santhebachahalli Hobali. The lake was filled to the brim due to the continuous rain that poured in this area since a week. This rain was feeding the animals in the nearby areas also.

Due to the bursting of the lake wall at Nayakanahalli, the road that connects the village to other parts is closed and people are having a tough time. In addition, several trees are uprooted due to the heavy winds at various parts of the taluk.

School gets submerged in water at Chitradurga

Traffic got affected due to the rain that poured in Chitradurga. The higher primary school at Rangapura village of Holalkere taluk was completely covered in water due to the heavy rain that poured on the night of Friday, June 1. Kudineerakatte lake which is nearby the town is filled to the brim due to the continuous rain. Locals and children gathered in hundreds to see the lake that is fully filled after three years.


Rain causes inconvenience in Mysuru

Water gushed into the houses at many parts of the city due to the incessant rain. The public had to face inconvenience as many trees fell on the road. Tourists had to abandon their sightseeing due to the non-stoping rain in the city.

No electricity in Gadag

Life in the cities of Gadag and Dharwad got disrupted on Saturday due to heavy rain. In Gadar it rained for more than an hour. The rain that was missing from three days has started again. Water gushed inside the houses of the slum area in Gadag city. Electricity got cut in many places. In Lakshmeshwar area many electric poles got uprooted due to the incessant rain that is pouring since two days. Agricultural activities had to stop in the fields at Dambala hobali of Mundaragi taluk.

    Rain is blessings from the God. In BJP ruled Shimla, capital of Himachal Pradesh people not taken bath for 7 days protesting outside the residence of the Chief Minister while mayor of the town is on vacation in China.
    I would only say that authority are not prepared for this sudden downpour which is advance this year for weeks.
