Mumbai, Jan 27: The ‘Karki Venkataramana Shastri Soori Award–2009’, was awarded to Karnataka Rajyotsava award recipient and ace Yakshagana artiste Ramachandra Hegde Chittani, in the metro recently.
The ceremony was held at Gokul Auditorium of BSKB Association, Sion (East), on Saturday. The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a citation letter, and a memento.
The selection committee comprised of Havyaka Welfare Trust president N R Hegde, convener Dr Taltaje Vasant Kumar, and honourary member Shimunje Parari.
The award was presented in the presence of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Maharashtra unit president H B L Rao, ‘Karnataka Malla’ editor Chandrashekar Palettady, Mumbai University head of department of Kannada Dr Taltaje Vasant Kumar, Havyaka Welfare Association president N R Hegde, and honorary secretary K Narayanappa.
Bharati Hegde, Sharada Karkera, Raghuveer Bhat, Vishnu Bhagavat, Jyoti Bhat, award chief convener Tanuja Hegde, and Shashikala, were present on the dais.
Karki Venkataramana Shastry Soori Award was instituted by the metro-based Havyaka Welfare Trust three years ago, so as to honour a Kannadiga every year, for his / her extraordinary contributions to literature, journalism, and social service.
