Karwar, Nov 17: A five-day charismatic retreat was inaugurated by Bishop Derek Fernandes of Karwar followed by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist along with 25 priests at Manaki Grounds here at Kumta on Monday November 15.

Over 4,000 thousand people from all over the diocese were present on the first day of the retreat. The retreat is conducted by Fr Augustine Vellooran and Fr Michael Payapalli of Divine Retreat Centre, Muringoor, Kerala.

It is organized by the Diocese of Karwar and the diocesan Catholic Association as a part of the celebration of Kristostava.

In his homily at the mass, Bishop Derek Fernandes highlighted the significance of the diocesan Charismatic Retreat, and said, “We all are the children of God who are drifted away from Him due to our sins, and these five days of prayer and reflection will help us to come closer to Him.”

Congrats to all those who made this retreat a great success. There are many lay people directly and indirectly involved in this mega event. The crowd was very encouraging and all these shows that there are people truely hungering for the word of God. The amount of travelling that people did up and down on all the 5 days is a clear indication that man is in search of God. Though it might be for any reason, it is an undenied fact that people are quite religious and one can not live without God. People have realized this great truth of ages and that is why there were more than 11 thousand people on 2 days. When I see all this, I feel proud to be a priest for God. Congrats to the Bishop, priests, religious and especially the laity that is involved deeply.
