Recipes - Date Cake (Using Steamer/Cooker)

Ingredients:

1 ½ cup maida (plain flour)
¾ tbsp. baking powder
½ tsp. sodium bicarbonate
4 eggs
¾ cup sugar
¾ cup cooking oil
1 tbsp. vanilla essence
¾ cup dates (smashed into small pieces)
1 tbsp. honey
Pinch of Salt

Method:

Mix flour, baking powder and sodium bicarbonate. Sieve this mixture three times and keep aside. Beat the eggs, sugar, salt & cooking oil until smooth with a electric beater. Add vanilla essence and honey and mix well. Now add the flour and beat well. Add smashed dates and mix gently.

Grease the cake mould with butter or oil and pour the cake dough. Spread evenly. Place this in a steamer or cooker without whistle on medium flame for about 45 mts. Insert a skewer in the middle & check if its cooked. If not, continue to steam for some more time.

Editor’s Note: Smashed banana may be used instead of dates. You may also add chopped wallnuts.

It's a easy recipe, can this be baked in the oven instead of steaming it, would the texture be the same or better.
